Question on video card brands and features?

Reading peoples thoughts. Most people seem to think that Radeon 9500 pro 128MB is the best value 3d card to buy. Im still tossing up between that or the cheaper Geforce ti4200 128MB 8xAGP. Here in AUS the ti4200 is about 25% ($90AU) cheaper then the 9500 pro. Is there much difference between the brands in the same card? Because there is quite a price difference. Any thoughts on the ti4200 card brands: Mercury (cheaper), Leadtek, Albatron, ASUS (more expensive)? I realize extra features such as VIVO adds expense. They all have the same chipset, right? Is there much diff in performance between the brands?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

no, since they are all Ti4200, there isn't much performance difference, unless they are clocked differently, but even so, it won't make much difference, so don't worry
btw, the extra features are up to you to decide if you wnat it or not
if you have extra cash, you should get Radeon9500Pro, cuz it's better than Ti4200 and it supports for DX9 which you can use for future games such as Doom3

Vision Tek (Xtasy) made the best TI cards...dunno if they still are, there was rumor they were going out of business. And it does matter what manufacturer makes the card...Nvidia simply provided the graphics chip base and what surrounds them are the manufacturer's chipset to exploit the graphics chip ability. I mean, would you say, "Nah, it doesn't matter which motherboard for a Socket A you get...they all pretty much perform about the same" I'd try to get a vision tek Xtasy TI4200...they benchmark higher too...It's up to you though. No Worries.

Visiontek no longer makes the Nvidia boards they switched to ATI, but they still support their old Visiontek products. See a bit of that story at HardOcp.

The weird thing. I JUST NOW tried to go to Visiontek's site (to get press release link) and got nothing! Perhaps a temprorary issue, but I hate when that happens from a 'formerly' bankrupt company. Trouble? You try it. Click on the link to visiontek in the HardOcp article. See what you get. I tried on Mozilla (blocked to the max) and IE (selectively managing cookies), Nothing. Strange.

Yes, Visiontek is now back up and running, but fo a company that was bankrupt, a service outage has greater signifigance. Which was why I said Now. But it's nice to see the site running again, despite the crappy audio effects.

BTW, delete your second post!

funny to see, how some people still believe that Doom3 needs DX9 to run :) It's not that all ID games since GLQuake only supported OpenGL and that the leaked Doom3 alpha version even didn't work with DX9 installed.

no, not all games needs DX9 to run, but if the games are designed with DX9, some special effect might be missing if you are using DX8.1 card to run
