I just got this card and I'm wondering about a few things.

1. I'm interested in the tweak from this link: http://www.rage3d.com/r3dtweak/

The newest Version is 3.8c.
Is it the best one?
Is it a good tweak?
Is it possible that I could damage my Graphic card by using the tweak?

2. About the ATI Hydravision.

- With this feature is it posible to play a game like battlefeild 1942. And have for example the front view on my monitor and the rear view on my tv?

3. What's the ATI TV for? Can I only use that with the All in Wonder?
Edited by Zemuron on 05/04/03 08:06 PM.

Why do you want to "tweak" your 9700 pro? What specifically are you wanting to do with it that it cannot do already?

If I had a 9700 pro I'd just leave it alone and be happy I had one of the best video cards available...

Hey, if I can tweak it and get it to perform better or whatever I will do it. Did you go see the link about the tweak that I posted on my thread? The tweak is full of improvements. I just want to know if using this tweak can easily damage the card of void the warranty.

I am just saying does it work great now? If so, then why risk phukkin something up just to get a few more FPS????

Its your call, Im just trying to give you some helpful advice so you wont havea $300 paperweight.

Good luck with Tweaking. (If done successful please post back)

ATI TV is part of the AIW package. If you have a PCI version of the ATI TV Wonder...it will work with that as well. TV is software to run with the tuner section...logging channels and also allowing video import from camcorders, etc...if you have any VIVO capabilities.

Hey Zem. I like these guys and all, but right now theyre acting pretty lame.
This is supposed to be an ENTHUSIASTS forum.
IM HARDCORE MAN!
You guys are just jealous! Let him overclock/tweak it for 10% more performance!
Go for it dude.

I've used that version of r3d on a friends 9700 pro, and plan to use it on my 9800 pro.
I highly recommend it. It is not dangerous to use unless you push the card too far (speed wise).
When overclocking id suggest you overclock the gpu/memory one at a time, as in, first one, then the other.
The INSTANT you see ANY anomalie, that is, any kind of screen error wether it be messed up textures or white/yellow lines or dots on your screen, back the speed off like 5mhz.
This goes for both the gpu(core) and memory frequency.
*Note, the speed given for your memory is the 'effective' speed. Because the memory is DDR... well you know:) Neways the actual speed is half of what it says. Just thought id tell you, it dosnt really matter though.

Theres also quite a few other nice tweaks in r3d besides overclocking. Its a very nice program, and blends very well with the ati control panel. (it becomes part of it)

P.S. Its also a nice idea to get aftermarket cooling if you plan to overclock. For you id say just get some heatsinks for the memory. You can cut up an old p2 heatsink and use it if you like. Any little aluminum/copper heatsink will do. The 9700s gpu cooler is very adequate, even when ocing. Not as good as aftermarket, but you shouldnt have a problem.
FYI there are 8 memory chips on the board:)

Long live ATI.
Edited by Willamette_Sucks on 05/05/03 06:17 PM.

Willamette, I am one of the guy's that told him to leave his card the way it is. I am also the guy who volt modded/P3modded his Radeon(see pic below)...If you dont solder some resisters onto your 9800Pro when you get it...I'm going to be calling you all kinds of wussy names..after all, you said yourself, your HARDCORE MAN!...and by the way...this is the video card forum, not the overclocker forum...so be prepared Willamette, I fully expect to see you holding a modded 9800Pro soon.

You don't want to do that since your TV has lower refresh rates and your monitor will have to sync to it. Also TV display is to blurry to do almost anything besides watch movies.

I'm Hard-Core, well a chocolatey candy shell with a Nutty core, but can I just put a shinney NIN sticker on the center of my HSF? IS that a good enough Mod?

Yahoo, can't wait to tell my parents I'm in Hardcore! Ooops!

LOL! I know about your p3 hsf Gen, you sent me those pics! Duh. Neways, youre on. Itll be a little longer to get you those pics though.
Ive looked into volt modding for the r9700/9800s. The thing is, without water cooling or some other 1337 means of cooling the thing, volt modding is rather pointless. There are other factors that limit the card first, and a volt mod , while increasing my speeds a little, will also increase my heat, and decrease the life of my card.
You know that im getting a crystal orb and tweakmonster ramsinks for this thing. I mean, not bad right? but it aint water cooling.
I guess it wouldnt hurt though, so if the resitors and whatever, are cheap enough, ill go for it. Link me to the stuff I need.

Oh and Gen, even though you think im rich/spoiled, im not. I would love to plot down 3 or 4 hundred bux for a nice water cooling system, but I just dont have it.
But for Christmas this year (or sooner if i get a job!), im gonna get a good sized mini-fridge and build my comp inside it. Ive already got plans. Ill make sure it has a good compressor, and ill put top grade freon in it. With the cooling I have, itll be better than water cooling, not to mention cheaper:) oooh, and itll be silver!
HAULLING A 3-foot tall MINI-FRIDGE TO A LAN IS HARDCORE GEN!
GET DOWN BIA!

oh yeah, NIN sux:(

Long live ATI.

You know what, Im just jealous man and a pussy. Go ahead and overclock the SOB. R3D will work. WS is right just do it a step at a time and when you notice something starting to go awry just back it off a little. Good luck man.

Hey pumpkin...I have a crystal orb in my desk if you want it. I think they suck. The stock 9800 cooling is better. You'll see. I am fully expecting you to refute my advice, but I couldnt overclock any higher with that thing stuck to my card.

Are you saying that I can't play pc games on my TV? If so, your wrong. I had a dual display geforce 2 before and I was able to play my pc games on my tv. So with my new 9700 pro. I was just wondering if I could get 2 different views(front and back when inside a car in a racing game for example). One view on my tv and another one on my monitor.

Um. How bout no.
The stock 9800 cooler isnt even as good as 9700 cooler, and the Crystal orb is definately better than the stock 9700 cooler.
So yes, I do want your crystal orb, if youre willing to give it up.
Maybe you had a s**ty experience, but everyone knows crystal orbs are better than stock.
I dont expect to be able to oc (5-10mhz) much more with the crystal orb than with stock cooling, thats not generally what happens (unless you have very crazy cooling). It will just keep the temps lower and prolong the life of my card when ocd.
Same for the ramsinks.

Long live ATI.

You guys are just confusing me a little.

I just want to know this. Do you guys believe me when I say I was ABLE to play pc games on my 32 inch tv (not a HDTV, or a flat screen) with a geforce2 dual display video?

No...thats not what we're saying at all. Almost all of us have played pc games on our tv's through the tv out port on our video cards....silly.

Zemuron:

Even if a video card supports multiple outputs, the application has to support it as well to do something like having the front view on your monitor and the rear view on your TV.

It's certainly possible, but very few games support it. Some racing games and flight simulators support multiple monitors (Like MS flight simulator), but it's rare. And their multiple monitor setup may be limited to expanding the front view across 2 or 3 monitors.

On a side note, playing games is great on TV! I play tons of games on my 27" television, but I usually limit it to arcade games like Need for Speed High Stakes 2, or Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb...
