3D Mark 03 kicked my vid cards ass!!

I have a Geforce4 Ti4600 128MB DDR card. I scored a measley 1879 3d Marks!!! I used the following settings:

Res: 1024 x 768
AA: None
Texture Filtering: Optimal
Max Anisotropy: 4
Vertex Shaders: Optimal
Repeat Tests: Off
Fixed Framerate: OFf

My CPU is a P4 2.4B with 512MB of Rambus RAM. I scored 539 CPU Marks..is that good?

Is this card suppose to score this low. I know it's not a directx 9 card but still!!! WTF happened? I went from scoring 14,000 in 3D Mark 01 to 1879 in 03!?! I also have detonater drivers ver 43.51. Someone please tell me I'm doing something wrong!!!

It's a fvcking DirectX 9 benchmark...you have a fvcking DirectX8 video card.....Duh!

About 1370, give or take. I only have a Radeon 8500.

It's back to slide shows for benchmarks.

Be happy. At least you probably did well in the flight simulator (whatever it's called).

Oh yeah, I got 278 CPU Marks (Tbred B @2.1 Ghz).

99% is great, unless you are talking about system stability

Just think about it, you can't complete 1 of the main tests (#4) and your card can't use Pixel Shader 1.4, so you're doubly hampered by your card (especially Nvidia's lack of PS 1.4 in it's DX8 cards).
I would think GW's 8500LE might do better than your card in 3Dmk2K3 simply because it is a PS 1.4 compliant card, despite his 8+K in 2001SE. I don't know if GW's tried it yet, and I wouldn't think it's worth his download simply to check.
The funny thing is that you got about 4,000 2k1 marks more than me (until I OC), but I'm over 1400 points higher in 2K3 with my 9600Pro.

People complained about this when it first came out but I like the fact that it's more graphics card dependant than CPU/setup dependant, as it's not a general test like Sandra, it's a 3D card benchmark.

Oh, and I got 393.0 for CPU marks (Athlon XP2000+ - running stock [for now])

Anywhoo, too bad you're disappointed, but you should have expected that cosidering you even mention you know it's a DX9 benchmark.

Run 3Dmark99 (or 2000), that should make you feel better. :tongue:

Hey if you REALLY want it I can put it in the mail tomorrow or the next day. (probably take 5-10 days to get to US via mail)

I didn't know dial-up still existed :tongue: , said the man who works for the phone company and gets his ADSL for virtually free.
Man I can't wait for VDSL and then I can look down my nose at all the 'Broadband' people. But that's about 2-4 years off. Mmmm 10-15+ mb/s tasty.

Eh, I even have two other sources. Work (our building is the dist. hub for ALL Western Canada [about 7 tree trunks of fiber inside that building]) has OC3 everywhere and T3 to every terminal/pc, and the University is full of T1 connections plus WiFi.

Anywho GW, PM me and I'll send it via Canada post. Also do you want it on MiniCD or on Full-size (minis (8cm) don't work in slot loaders)?

yeah you should send it to him! i would LOVE to see how his awesome 8500 (its not an LE anymore) compares to a TI4600 in 3dmark03, because ps1.4 is very close to ps2.0 for effieciency and speed (from what people say)

i find it hilarious that an old card from ATI competes with Nvidia very recent top performer in that test. if the 2 cards (Ti4600, 8500) were clocked the same they would almost the same for score i imagine... ATI always packed the features in

More like downloading it in 30-90 SECONDS!

But even at work with basically a T3 right into my cube I am limited by congestion on the .net and at the site I'm visiting.

The future is sweet though if it happens. Also the only way to compete against G3 phones. The only thing phone/cable can offer is speed, especially when G3 will reach about 400+kb/s within 2 years (selectively 90-144k NOW).

Probably, that's why most people are worried and changing their graphics card in anticipation of DOOM-]|[, however at the same time, NONE of us know how it will look, the Alpha is unoptimized, and likely doesn't have all the tweaks. So what we've seen so far probably isn't the best they have to offer and proably won't run on the cards the final copy will.

Don't worry until the final copy arrives or at least is fully detailed at E3.

Probably won't look like poop, just play like poop. (I'm joking but half-heartedly).

Maybe it's just me but reading <A HREF="http://www.bluesnews.com/plans/1/" target="_new">John Carmack's .plan</A> just gives me the impression that he's not quite satisfied with NV30 and R300. He doesn't actually say this but the comment, "As always, better cards are coming soon", just has me wondering.

I'm not doing anymore upgrades until Doom III is released. I'm not a hard core gamer (not even close). I make do with the hardware I have and this doesn't bother me.

I think I'm going to need or rather I'm going to want pretty good hardware for Doom III.

99% is great, unless you are talking about system stability

yeah GW just get download accelerator.. you can pull from multiple streams and also save yor download before its finished to stretch it over a couple days..

PLEASE download it. itll be SOO fuking funny to see how a super oc'd 8500 compares to a GF4TI. i have a feeling we will be impressed with the 8500
