I would say, if you want to buy a laptop for gaming, then go for a laptop with a stronger GPU rather than such a strong CPU. most games are GPU based anyways, I'm sure i5 should do a good enough of a job. Ehh but since 7690 is still a high-end graphics card, I guess you'd do fine
and 7690 have quite a big difference compared to 7470. Totally worth $75

According to this site, GT555M is a bit above 7690M. I'm not so sure about this, but they're both on the high-end.. and its above 6770M as well. 7470M is way below in the bottom of mid-range graphics card. even an A8 APU's graphics card, 6620G, is above 7470.
It seems that you're buying one directly from HP. Although it's certainly not a bad idea, but don't forget to add coupons. I think there is a 33% discount coupon for DV6t quad edition that cost over $1000 in base cost without rebate. Definitely look for that. (33% rebate is not combinable with instant rebate though; so I think it would cost about $800~ ish with 7690M)
I'm looking at Newegg if there's a better deal with a better graphics card.. but no luck for now. So I guess this HP deal is pretty nice.

it seems 33% coupon is not there anymore. instead they have this
$415 off HP Pavilion dv6t Quad laptops after HP Coupon NBL9438 [Exp. 01/22 or 1400 uses]
* Not combinable with instant rebates.

which is extra $165 dollars off from $250 instant rebate. good enough, i should say

The GT555M and the 7690M should be about comparable to each other like any two cards of similar speed from AMD and Nvidia. The 7690M might be a higher clocked 6770M or have the same clock speed. It is the fastest 7000M series that is a rebadged VLIW4 chip. The 7700M and above will be based on the GCN architecture.

Frickin' ay! That's a damn straight rig to blow through some Tetris and Minesweeper! I'd be all over it...
IF I KNEW WHERE YOU FOUND THIS DEAL!

looks like you got this deal straight off the front page without giving them credit -_-

anyways it's got a graphics card and the most recent common mobile i7 processor, so it's fine. i can't find a benchmark but it must be pretty new in the 700 series so it should be all good

Keep your eyes open. I got a **DV7** with these exact specs, but with the 7200 RPM hard drive, for $749, with free 2 day shipping. There was a $550 HP coupon floating around and I snagged it. With my configuration, it worked out to a 42% discount. Pretty sweet. Bought directly from HP website.

The coupon is now dead, but these crazy coupons crop up all the time. You pretty much have to search every day until you find a new one, then jump on it.

I kinda have the same problem.
I want to buy a laptop good enough to be able to game, (almost) without lagging.

I have been searching around for a time now, and this is what I found, and of which I thought they were good.

ASUS X73SD-TY086V
quick specs:

- intel core i7 (i7-2670QM), 4 kernen (=quadcore?), 2,2GHz

- NVIDIA GeForce 610M (1GB)

- 4GB RAM

- Serial ATA-300, 500GB, 5400rpm Hard Drive

- 699,- euro

SAMSUNG Series 3 NP305E7A-S01NL
quick specs:

- AMD A6-3420M, 4kernen (=quadcore?), 1,5GHz

- AMD Radeon HD 6470M (1GB)

- 4GB RAM

- Serial ATA-300, 500GB, 5400rpm Hard Drive

-599,- euro

I already took aloof at this site: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html , but I don't know how to read this, the only thing I understood was the numbers on the left, and that the lower it is the better it is.

please tell me which is better and why, so I know which one I should buy, or if u know a better laptop, please tell me and I'll have a look at it, the best for me would be if it doesn't cost more than 699,- euro.

tnx already
