[DECK] Tremere Block/Burn

greetings.

humbly asking for comments for a first-time Tre deck. i'm used to
ani/pot combat and some cel but this is the first time i'm trying my
hand at blood magic.

the basic strategy of this deck is to bounce big bleeds via Telepathic
Misdirection/My Enemy's Enemy and absorbs small ones via Telepathic
Counter.

if and when I bleed, it'll probably be with Conditioning.

setup will consist of getting on a Flak Jacket and the Sport Bike,
maybe the cooler. obviously, Rutor's Hand is desired at the beginning.

blood gain will be from Theft at superior (since all vamps have THA),
Minion Tap, The Rack. hopefully i will be able to cycle if someone
tries to steal The Rack. :)

Well, I shouldn't be doing this, not being a really great player, but
given most top VTES players around the world are at Week of Nightmares,
readying themselves to play at the NA Nationals... i figured it out
that I could post a deck I've been playing for the last couple of
months, and ended up second in a 19 players tournament in BsAs, after
qualifying top seed with 2GW and a tie.

My first trials started with a deck much as yours, and ended up adding
more Dominate. It worked pretty well, but only after much testing and
tweeking. I followed advised from the previous two times champ here,
and dropped the equipment, swap Telepathic Misdirections for
Deflections and also diversified the crypt (as advised by a guy on the
web).

Bleeding with one or two vamps a turn is great, if you pass, you gain
the edge and prevent your prey from gaining pool with it, if you don't,
you get into combat (which you want to, anyway).

That's great to hear! And you're in luck, because I'm one of the many
players not at GenCon.

It looks like you don't have any copies of Carna, the Princess Witch.
She would be a much better choice than Ardan Lane. If you can get a
copy of Martin Franckel I would put him in place of one of the Blythe
Candeleria. And since you don't have too many Tremere-only cards, I
would recommend changing one Cohn Rose for Hannigan. Also Anastaszdi
Zagreb would be great in place of Ardan or Rebekka.

Good selection of masters, except for Gird Minions. I think you'll
have enough blood with all those Theft of Vitae. I would replace them
with Sudden Reversal or some more Govern the Unaligned. In addition,
Tremere Convocation is not very useful since all of your vampires have
superior Thaumaturgy and you will only get the +1 stealth on 4 actions.
Consider Arcane Library or a Dominate master instead.

Anima Gathering will probably be better than Psychic Projection. You
might want to squeeze in a couple Govern the Unaligned.

This is fine. You might wan a couple more Conditioning in the future.

I would recommend fitting in a few Eagle's Sight so you can block your
prey's bleeds. Here is an example 24 cards which matches roughly what
you already have:

4 Telepathic Misdirection

It's up to you but I think you will find that 6 Walk of Flame is too
many, and the Shotgun Ritual isn't *quite* worth it.I would recommend
going down to 4 Walk of Flame, 2 Soul Burn, 0 Shotgun Ritual, and
adding 2-4 Apportation and some more Conditioning or My Enemy's Enemy.

Good. Obviously if you can get your hands on a Bowl of Convergence,
use it in place of the Cooler. And if you don't have Bowl, maybe make
the Cooler a Conditioning or a Learjet.

After looking through the whole thing, this is a great attempt at your
first Tremere deck. I've laid out my thoughts on how to make this deck
better but you are welcome to play away and make your own
modifications.

If you decide to focus more on the block/burn and less on the
bruise/bleed, you should look into Burst of Sunlight and Rotschreck.
You can build the deck so that you don't try so hard to reach the
second round of combat and still reliably torporize your opponents.

You get a free theft of vitae (they can't hit back) and superior AUS
gets you that needed press...

....For this you will require more big AUS. Your crypt only has 6 vamps
with the required discipline, two of them are duplicates, and three of
them are 8-caps (unlikely to get two).

Alternately, you can just go with a Deflection/Counter package, which is
a lot easier to work with (especially when you include 1x Martin
Franckel, who is great for sitting with his thumbs in and Countering.
Ditch 1x Cohn, he ain't that good.)

That's a lot of kit-up for a basically defensive deck. You've already
got semi-slow forward momentum and will need to get most of your crypt
out to actually put pressure forward -- be careful of adding too many
actions.

Won't be useful to you especially, but makes a great distraction for
people to come and burn instead of bleeding you for 6.

Ditch both of these. If your minions are sufficiently boned that you
actually need to move pool to them, you're in more trouble than these
will save you from.

Why? Everyone has THA and the +1 stealth won't help you get the actions
like Rutor's Hand through any more -- your biggest opponent is always
2nd Tradition.

Be warned; you have an intercept shortage. Hopefully you will be able

Junk both the Blood to Water and Shotgun Ritual; they are NOT worth the

head mashed in on round 2.

Your only cards that cost blood (after above edits) are:

So throw this out; it gives you almost no benefit and it's an extra

you can get the Bikes a little quicker.

notes:

1)i filled out the crypt with !Tre, and kept the bigger Tre simply
because of their specials (Ardan, Muaziz and Rebekka).

2) added Channel 10, Blood Rage and Movement of the Mind

3) combo: aside from the typical Theft+press+Walk, if i'm forced to
stay in close range, then i'll Blood to Water+Blood Rage (0 blood
paid).


difficulties:

1) not everyone can benefit from the Chantry.

2) i want to put in Wind Dances (about 4) and maybe even a Rotschreck
(or 2) because of the high combat environment i play in, but i don't
know where to put them.

I hate Muaziz for this deck, BTW. I like Muaziz in general. Muaziz is
a great vamp. But I hate Muaziz for this deck. I should've suggested
Carna, and I'm not sure why I didn't. =)

Um. Blood Rage is probably going to get your guys blown to smithereens
by some massive nasty (optional agg) hand strike, you know. =)

....-1 for the hands-for-one (best scenario) from your opponent. I
really, really don't like Blood to Water, by the way, unless you're
using Anathema alongside it. It just spends SO much blood off your
guys, for so little result.

Not a major problem. It's there as a backup anyway, and your main guys
(Ardan, etc.) are still able to use it.

Wind Dances: In the garbage.
Rotschreck: 1x at most; from the decklist below, I'd pitch a Seeds of
Corruption. I'd also consider pitching the other two Seeds for 2x Burst
of Sunlight, and then you could scrounge room for yet one more
Rotschreck if you really felt sleazy.

Oodles better. I still like Carna instead of Muaziz, though I know the
+1 stealth and munch-o-rifficness is tempting and hard to pass up.

ICKY ICKY POO. These cards are not good in this deck.

Primarily, the action to remove is NOT directed at you -- it's directed
at the controller of the card. If you are in a good position, your prey
will deal with your predator to have your predator remove the Seeds on
his turn, and it will be wasted actions and blood on your part since you
have no Eagle's Sight to block it.

Yuck. This doesn't provide the gun defense that Soul Burn did -- which
is about the only reason to include Soul Burn in the deck. It _looks_
free, but you get punched for 1 since you're at close, so it costs 1 anyway.

I'd be really tempted to go with only 4x Walk here and 2x more Theft.
