Unlocking the 9500Pro

The number one reason why I didnt want to buy a 9500Pro, was because ATi locked the clock speeds on those cards. I told myself I could live with the factory clock speeds enough times, that I convinced myself, and I bought the card. It sucks though when you see all of the reviews across the web showing what the card was capable of, if it was overclocked. Grape sent me 3DMark 03 in the mail from Canada, and it got to my house today...I was stoked. That is I WAS stoked until I benched my card with it. I'm not going to tell you the score I got because it wasnt that hot. Also, I have a pos Elitegroup mobo with ddr266 ram in it. Not even my Tbred Xp2100+ can help a mobo as sorry as this...thats the main reason my score was so low. Immediately after my first bench, I went to Rage3D and hooked up a bios that would fix my problem...a stock 9700 bios. The dood who helped me was a much smarter man than I, and gave me some good advice.(now I know what forums are for)I fuckking hate flashing video card bios's, especially when it's my own, but I must say, that it couldnt have gone smoother, I dumped my original bios to floppy, and the flash went off without a single error. The only disadvantage to this whole procedure is that now windows thinks my video card is a 9700Pro....I can live with that....My 3DMark 03 score is 3,792 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=749781 and my 3DMark 01 score is close enough to 12,000 that I dont want to publish it yet...I need to tweak some more.
Thank you again Great Grape Ape....you are an asset to these forums and an awsome dood.

Very nice...without overclocking your card, you should get a much better score than I...

dude, Soltek nforce2, like 140 bucks canadian. AWESOME deal and one of the fastest/stablest for overclocking nforce2

get it!!! :D

oh yeah can you post your 3dmark01 compare url with the 9500pro?

wat im interested in, is that 8500's o'cd to about 300/300 have almost the same fill rate...

shouldnt the 9500pro be double for single texturing compared to an 8500, and the same for multi texturing givin the difference in teh pixel pipelines?

note the fill rate! i believe the 8500 is overclocked to 295/295 .. not 100% sure but i know it is overclocked. note especially the single texturing fill rate, because the 9500pro should theoretically be twice that , because of its 8x1 pipelines and the 8500 has 4x2

O.O!!!

Phial, I dont have an 01 score published yet, but I do know that my 9500Pro is getting roughly 3000 more points in that benchmark then my 8500LE running @ 300/300. What the theoretical fillrate difference is between the two, I'm not sure right now.

128 bit memory is probably the reason its the same. whats the benifit then of having 8 pipelines?

yes,it is alot higher, BUt why the hell is the fill rate almost identicle?! it just doesnt make sense....*my brain!*

if you check out Apes thread, and compare his 9600pro to a 8500@300/300, they are very similar EXCEPT the pixel shading and bump mapping tests...

of course theres more too it that accounts for teh higher score..
