PNY GFFX 5200 - PROBLEMS

I needed a new video card for another computer I have, so I thought I'd give my GF3 to that computer and get a new video card for myself.

I wanted to be cheap and get some improvement so I picked up a PNY GeForceFX 5200 for $99 @ Best Buy. The card installed fine and came with what was (until today) the newest detonator drivers. I installed the card, everything seems to work well.

Then I tried playing a few games. For yucks I loaded up the Doom3 leaked beta, just to see how my card performed.

it did pretty well at first but then it started to do this. Something or other about a vertex cache over flow and lots of [-peep-] going haywire.

Oh well, I thought, no big deal...it's just the doom3 beta. What do ya expect?

SO then I loaded up Vice City to see how that went...well...at first everything was fine. But after cruising around for about 30 seconds, things got very messed up.

It's like after a bit the vertices go haywire. This happens in all games. Today I upgraded to the new dets that just came out, and same stuff. Is something defective here or what's the deal? I'm thinking the error title in doom3 'Vertex Cache Overflow' tells all and means something to someone.

Thanks for the help!!

That was an awsome post. Very nice with all the pictures & stuff. I'm sorry to hear about your problems, but the fact of the matter is, that your GeForce3 was a better card then the one that you just bought. That's Nvidia's Marchitecture at work. They make you think that your getting a better card, but in fact, your card from TWO generations back is faster/better. I hope alot of people read this post. If there is any way that you can return that FX card...you better get on it. And that's no joke.

sounds like a defective card or perhaps overheating card. Check and see that the heatsink is all the way on and not falling off, ive had those sorts of problems before and itll do exactly what youre describing. Dont listen to genetic weapon he is just a crazy Ati fanatic not willing to give good advice. Hope you get it figured out.

Well, the advice I gave your Mom to shave her back was pretty good...at least now she's getting fuckked by humans instead of Rotwielers/Shetland Ponies....

Maybe a driver problem. Wait for Detonator FX series (50.xx) drivers or return the card and get a Radeon 9100

Yes but if he waites for DetonatorFX his return policy might expire...I dont know that though.

..you are wrong
yes, it's true that geneticweapon is a crazy ATI fanboy
but he's a great help here with his knowledge
so "Dont listen to genetic weapon he is just a crazy Ati fanatic not willing to give good advice."
this is not true, and he did not even mention any ATI's video card's here, what he says is true, GeForce3 is faster than FX5200, the only benefit of 5200 is support DX9, you have to admit it
I'm appreciate that he is in this forum!

Hmmm... well the FX5200 isn't exactly the greatest card. But it should not be doing that. Have you tried other games? Perhaps it's just driver probs with those games. And I agree look at the heatsink. See if it's messed up or something..

Don't flame Genetic Weapon, and Genetic, don't take it too hard, keep yer cool and let's not get into nasty name calling and stuff like that. Just ignore him. You give some good advice and that's all that matters.

ROFLMAO!~~~~~~!!!~1111!!!!!111

omg dude OUCH that hurt me even!!! HAHAHAAhahahahahahhaa....*laffing*

ahah..

.... ahah....

ok..

i admit it DOES sound liek a heat issue. those same visual errors often come from overclocking as well. perhaps the cripppled and severed 5200 gpu couldnt handle stocks clock speeds? hm......

try an old version of the drivers. make sure yor AGP drivers are up to date, and make sure you have adequate cooling also. extra case fan maybe, even tho they are teh suck for noise.....

and GW is right about your GF3 being faster . it can probably walk circles around your 5200 in games that those games can play. and no, you wont be able to play DX9 effects on that card, its just too slow. and it lacks the special pixel-shader buffer that makes DX9 effects useable and adequately fast

Wow I didnt know that abusing controlled or non-controlled substances automatically made you non-nerdish. And thanks for the compliment on my advice chuck, good to see that someone appreciates worthwhile advice.

Thats funny as SH!T.

I think Im gonna flame mulletBITCH everytime I see his posts.

Maybe he'll get the point and post an intellegent post...

so recommending to check the heatsink is not an intelligent post? Dude you better read the entire thread before you bash.

I will not dispute that the GF3Ti200 is indeed faster than the FX5200, but that didnt seem to be the posters concern, he was just wanting to know why he was getting artifacts with his 5200. (2 again)

You're a friggin "enthusiasts" for god' sake... have a little respect. His post here was quite helpful. You'll scare the people who have questions away with your trolling posts.
