I'm just curious about what would you guys choose between these two cards if you are getting a new video card?
Hey, don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to start a flame war, just want to know which one would you take and why?

Disclaimer: I like nVidia, I was very disappointed in them with the early FX series, but I trust their drivers. I have never been disappointed in an nVidia card I owned. I was very pissed off and angry about the ATI i owned (6mo of no functional drivers do that to ya.)

I'd go the 5900 Ultra route personally. Now that nvidia has put out good drivers for the fx series and it can compete with ati in image quality, speed, etc... I would go with nVidia even if ati had a slightly faster card. Just don't like ati's drivers... even though they are supposedly alot better now than they once were.

I'd go for the R9800. The early FX series made me completely pessimistic towards nVidia, also when I heard about them possibly cheating with driver tweaks I lost my faith in them. Now I'm a dedicated ATI fanboy!

Just for counterbalance, ATI cheated with quake3 (that is a fact, not speculation). Also you may want to checkout hardocp's story about extremetech... shrug. In the end-- I glance at the 3dmark scores but I really look at image quality, driver quality, and speed *in the games I play* because that is a much more important indicator than any synthetic theoretical benchmark.

I'd go for the FX5900 Ultra... just seems like a better card. Corrected just about all the faults there are in the NV30.

Wait and see some pricing first. I've heard rumors the 5900 Ultra will be $499. If that's true, it changes the equation slightly.

Yes...ATi cheated in Quake3. It seems like such a long time ago. That was before the ArtX merger....

A long time ago, and also didn't take a long time before it was removed and admitted.

nVidia still cheats. I dunno why Shadus uses a lame old cheat that was stopped, as a counterbalance, when nVidia is STILL DOING IT, and even more dangerously at their name.

Here's the link to the OLD Quake 3 issue;

The thing is that ATI was lambasted (rightfully so) and promptley changed their ways. Nvidia this is like their third time getting caught with their fingers in the cookie jar, and I doubt they will come clean.
