My previous video card was an 8500LE, it had a HSF that was glued on..when I popped it off, I found it was bearly touching the core...crappy. So tonight I was looking at my 9500Pro, and remembered seeing hardware reviewers remove the big HSF(same as the 9700Pro) only to find a nice application of Arctic Silver underneath..Luckily my HSF is held on with pushpins, so I had a look for myself.
You know what I found?
A PHUCKING THERMALPAD!!!!...AAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!
That blows...but earlier last week I was talking on msn chat with Willamette, he said that he was going to stick a Thermaltake Crystal Orb on his 9800Pro...I told him not to because I thought the factory HSF would be more efficient.
Willamette...sorry I was wrong. I had a brand new Crystal Orb in my computer desk that I bought at Fry's, and never used. The thing is so heavy I didnt trust glueing it onto my 8500LE...seriously..but on my 9500Pro, the pushpins matched perfectly, and after a liberal dousing of Arctic Alumina, my card was back in my machine and running. I dont know how many of you guy's have heard a Crystal Orb at full speed, but let me tell you, it's louder then the 9 case fans I have(higher pitched)...and as for it's performance?...I had my core running @ 375mhz!!!
THATS 100Mhz OVER STOCK!!!
The highest it would go with the factory HSF was around 355mhz....It hasnt been easy for me..I really wasnt too stoked about this card at first, I couldnt overclock it because 9500Pro's have a bios that locks out their clock speeds. But once I flashed the bios(thanx warp@rage3d) and changed the cooling...I have a freakin' monster of a video card!...I wish I could hump the damn thing!...(so stoked)

That's pretty impressive. So your 9500Pro should be able to challenge 9700Pro now!!!
Any idea who else manufacture their Radeon card using thermalpad? I hope Hercules doesn't involve in this because they are such a good overclocker.

It is morally wrong to allow suckers to keep their money

Awesome results man, you should take pics and have them run over to me, I'll get 'em to Scamtron, who is accepting pics at the moment for updating (he is ready to update site now).

You're one true enthusiast!
Take benches!

Sweet! Now as PHIAL said, Bench it Again! and add the results here and to my thread. PS I have a new one there with the new Cat 3.4s to give youa target to shoot for (and likely destroy).

Yeah I knew about the Thermal Pad, it's easier to use than grease so they use that, just like stock AMD HSFs use it.

So how you liking your card so far? Hehehe! I knew we'd be hearing about a major tweak within a week. All hail the Master Tweaker.
