I tested the softmod out on my red sapphire 9500->9700 and although it doesn't crash or anything I do get some artifacts and checkerboards. I was wondering if better cooling my eliminate this problem and if so I would like to hear of some people who actually did this. Also I would appreciate what everyone's opinion is of the chances of getting a working 9500->9700 without any artifacts etc considering only those 9500 np cards with the l shaped ram this. Thanks

Better cooling probably will not fix it...

I'm not sure about this but GeneticWeapon has tried to remove the stock cooling (which use thermalpad) and replace a Thermaltake Crystal Orb on his new 9500Pro and he manage to overclock his card a 100MHz more which match 9700Pro clock speed. So even replacing a cooling may not help in softmod, but it certainly increases the overclockability.

It is morally wrong to allow suckers to keep their money

If your card is atifacting after the mod at default clock speeds, then the mod failed unfortunately. It doesnt have anything to do with cooling, it has to do with the other four pipes being unlocked....I would suggest you go to rage3D.com for more detailed help.
