Hello! This is my first post on this board, so I chose this topic top put my question in.

I have decided to buy a new computer instead of my current PII 400. I have got an offer which I'd like some comments on. Also I wonder if it's worth waiting for the Athlon 1.3 GHz compared to the system I've put together.
The other questions I have are: Have I missed anything vital which I will need? Should I go for another Graphics Card since the rest of the system has a rather high performance? Thank you on forehand!

Greetings/ Leif Söderlund

Here it is:

(The price for the system ^1700USD)

P.S: I will keep my old SBLive Genuine sound Card!

Well, everything is good, except :

CD Samsung 52x CD ---> DVD-Rom Pioneer 16x/40x(CD-Rom) (this way you can watch some movies too ;-) )
LG 17" 775E Studioworks ---> Sony G-200 (The best 17" monitor)
CDRW Acer 10/8/32 ---> Plextor 121032A (Bye Bye Coasters!)

Thanx alot for the very fast answer (here in Sweden one can wait for hours without replies) =)

To answer your tips:
Regarding the DVD I already have a statianary DVD so i figured it'd be overkill to have two...*grin*

As for the monitor I am aware of the fact that the LG is not the best, but what does one do when the wallet gets to thin..?

Same as above for the CD-Writer...=(

But don't you think I should go for an ATI radeon 64Mb instead of the 32Mb GeForce? Aldso I wonder if the latter has a Tv-out/in?

Thank you again for replying so fast!

"Thanx alot for the very fast answer" That´s because i´m down here in the mediterranian not in USA! Portugal to be exact!

"Regarding the DVD I already have a statianary DVD so i figured it'd be overkill to have two...*grin*"Well, buy a
Toshiba CD-Rom , or a ASUS, or Plextor not a Samsung or LG for that matter! (Samsung is only good at monitors!)

"but what does one do when the wallet gets to thin..?"
Save on other components and buy the best, what else!
In the eyes field you shouldn´t mess up! Buy the Best!

"Same as above for the CD-Writer...=(" Think how much you´re going to save on coasters!

"But don't you think I should go for an ATI radeon 64Mb instead of the 32Mb GeForce? Aldso I wonder if the latter has a Tv-out/in?" No! Don´t bother! The ASUS deluxe has
TV-in/TV-out already!

The best experience a friend of mine had with an Acer CDRW drive was exchanging it for a Yamaha.

I have heard Acer makes crappy CDRW. Go for a Plextor - I've got one of this - (or Creative) 12/10/32 drive - it is worth the difference.

You should get an Asus 50x CDROM in case you don't want DVD. Yeah, Samsung may be 52x, my uncle has one of these and reads multisession discs as if they were audio ones. The Asus has got > 12 audio extraction, so you could copy audio CDs at 10x (or 12x - GET THE PLEXTOR), I am sure the Samsung will not have such a fast audio extraction.

All the LG monitors I've seen look funky after a pair of years, they keep changing the color of the screen until you smash them.

If you want TV-out/in, get a Radeon VIVO with 64mb, keep in mind that Win2k drivers for this card are not very good, and that there are Geforce2 GTS models out there (some Asus one, I think) with TV-out/in, as well.

The Mini Super Orb is not a very good fan for the computer you want to use it on, you should get a better one (may I suggest Vantec?).

Alright, I'll put a stop to this!
I have an Acer 10X4X32 CDRW that I got at Best Buy for $180. I have never had a problem with it. It reads very fast and it only takes about 6 min to burn 700MB.
I use Adaptec (the disk that came with the drive) and Fireburner and both work perfectly.
I also use cloneCD, you know the program that copies CDs and even burns in the bad sectors (this is the only program so far that can do this) so that it fools the copyright protection and you don't need a special crack to play games or use software. There is a very small list of drives that can be used with the cloneCD program and as it turns out this Acer drive is one of them. This ability alone makes this drive a great deal.

Not that I would ever make illegal copies of discs.

Score one more point to the Plextor!

Plextor also can be used with CloneCD!
