Hi
I'm buying a comp for a friend with the following (bare bone pre fab) spec + a 9700 Pro:
PC Chip M848L DDR Retail MotherBoard with Athlon XP 2600+ 2.083Ghz CPU
- ATX CASE W/ 350W PSU
- 128MB PC2100 DDR MEMORY
- Maxtor 20GB 7200/133 HDD
- OnBoard 10/100Mbps LAN, 8X AGP
- Artec 52X CD-ROM DRIVE
- Samsung 1.44MB FDD
- Keyboard & Mouse
Total $370

I figure the 9700 Pro at $270 will make it a pretty good gaming PC for around $640. I just want to make sure the Graphics card isn't throttled by the CPU, RAM or some other weird spec on the mobo. Can anyone give me a heads up? Thanks!

Yeah I know. I'm buying a barebones rather than spending time putting it together (other than card and OS) and that's the spec at that price. Will it effect the performance? I know I can grab a stick of 256 for < $30...

Ya dude, barebones pre-fabs are ok sometimes... but 128mb ram?
Not to mention PC2100!!
Its a freaking xp2600, give it some DDR333, preferably dual channel!
Youd be better off building it yourself dude, you can find a decent nForce 2 mobo for 80 dollars.
Do some more research.

Long live ATI.

That card performs well with nearly any CPU. Look at Tom's CPU comparison for examples. So get the damned card already, and upgrade the RAM while you're at it.
