The Admin account on my Win 7 system is no longer there... is there a way to recover/recreate it?

Thanks for your response - I appreciate the help.

OK, I did this. The Admin account was there, and my password worked. Rebooted - my Admin account was there, but I got a "User Profile Service Failed" notice when I tried to login. Went back to Safe Mode, changed my password, reboot - same thing. When I was in Safe Mode I did not see a create new account option.

Any thoughts?

Have you attempted to perform a System Restore?

here is a article from MSFT KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215
it involves modifying the registry so I would make a copy/backup of the reigistry and then modify it, anything goes wrong , you have a way back
