Hey guys,
after all your help - I fnally got my 9700 pro functioning.
But I also discovered that my MOBO is limited to 1400 Mhz processors ( i have a 1333 now).
I have found as ASROCK MOBO the K7S8X with sis 746FX chipset teamed with a 2400XP CPU for a good price. Do you think this is a good fit with my radeon or should I wait for prices to fall and head further north on CPU speed.

PS the MOBO FSB is 200/266/333 - will this allow me to accept CPUS above 3000 when they appear or are there backward compatibility issues?

Perhaps I should shove this in the MOBO section?

that cpu speed is fine. will work well with the fast graphics card

Your mobo is ok, but wont support the very latest AMD cpu's comming out, the 400FSB variants.

Bit of a moot point though... the 462 chipset is nearing the end of the line, so cpu speeds arnt going to get much faster.

I agree with PooBaa. That's a good enough mobo and you have an upgrade path to the Athlon 3000+ if you want.
That mobo should keep you going for at least a year or so.

After that, you'll probably be interested in an Athlon64 motherboard anyway. ;)

For the meantime, the 2400+ is definitely a good fit for the 9700 PRO.

So I can go up to 3000 mhz bc its 333 FSB but the cpu's beyond that arent supported bc they are 400on the FSB?
and even if i found a mobo that was 400 mhz compliant it would only provide support until AMD64's appear on the scene some time??
And when should they appear - should I wait???
Thanks guys for the great info
