Coulnd't find anything on the fly (or on Google, for that matter):

If a vampire who doesn't have the default sect for his clan burns a CI
that changed his clan, does he revert to his original sect or does he
become the default sect for his clan?

Searching on "Lucita" is good for this, as it's where a lot of it was
discussed.

Lucita (base - Independent) changes to <clan>, she adopts the new sect
and clan. When she burns the CI, she also changes clan. It's not just
"undoing" the effect of CI, it's a clan change. (This is important;
it's what makes this work.) So she changes to Lasombra, and becomes a
Sabbat Lasombra.
