I have a g4 ti4200 128ddr for a year now, but i have a pIII 500, therefore it is kinda stuck in here, not performing as it should..for instance, the top score i get in 3Dmark 2001 is 3200 :|

But im going to buy in a week now, a pIV 3.0, 1024 ddr33 and a nice hd ...but the g4 is now one year old ... will it perform well in the next generations of games ? Nowadays i think there are few games which take all advantages of its capabilities, and that makes me optimistic about it, but
in the other there are so many new cards with greater performance ratings that ..ghe...will mine worth anything ?

I cannot afford to buy a new one right now .. so, whats your opinion ? im tired of crapy perfomance with his lousy cpu :\

If you're going to get the 3GHz 800MHz FSB P4, you should get DDR400 or faster.

* For playing those future games at high graphics settings, you'd be better off with ATi 9700/9800 or equivalent nVidia card. For less than high settings, I'd say that a system armed with a 3GHz P4 and GF4 Ti 4200 would be sufficient.

* If you overclock, you could just buy a 2.4C or 2.6C P4 and use the money saved by doing that to go towards a ATi 9700 Non-Pro.

With a 3 Ghz machine, your Geforce4Ti4200 will be just fine for a while.

Upgrade everything else first, and don't upgrade your video card until the day comes that you buy a game that you can't play.

I've read that the best high-end bargain chip right now is the P4 2.8(800fsb w/HT). It can easily be oc'd to 3.2 with stock fan.

Also, you will see a huge improvement with your new system. Your old CPU was seriously bottlenecking your GF4. With your new setup you should easily be able to surpass 10K in 2001SE.

I currently have a Athlon XP 1500, 512 PC2100, and a GF4 Ti4200 64mb and I easily get around 8800 in 2001SE and as high as 9100.

Eventually, you'll need a new card to play DX 9.0 titles, but since there are none out there and none coming in the immediate future, your best course of action is probably to wait a few months to upgrade.

I cant buy a new graphics card for now, it would mean spending more $200 :\
but anyways, i know it will improve as hell,i cant use half of this card´s possibilities here .. but .. ok, over 10k in 3dmark2001 ? i have it overclocked now at 300/500...would it be safe and perform any better if i overclock it in with a new cpu ?

btw, heard doom3 is one heavy biatx :\ could never dream of running it at decent fps with this card could i ? ..

Just curious but you base this assumption on what?

The aim of military training is not just to prepare men for battle, but to make them long for it. <A HREF="http://forums.btvillarin.com/index.php?act=ST&f=41&t=327&s" target="_new"><b>MY SYSTEM</b></A>
