I just exchanged my 9200 for a 9600 Pro. Installed it and it seems to be working well. I have an Asus P4C800 Delux motherboard with a 2.4 GHz processor over clocked to 2.64 GHz, stock fan and heat sink pad. The system has 512 MB of Kingston PC3200 memory, and I’m running XP-Pro. I have an X-Dreamer Case that has several fans. I also added a fan to the 9200 that I subsequently put on the north bridge chip.

Before I upgraded the video card the CPU never ran over 30 deg C. With the 9600 Pro my CPU temperature is sitting close to 40 C. Although 40 C really isn't that hot, I'm surprised to see such a large increase. Is this to be expected? The card is running at it stock speed, although I would like to turn it up a bit. Is this to be expected?

As the CPU made it to 2.64 GHz without any problem I was hoping to get it to at least 2.8 GHz. Should I be looking for a better CPU fan or just better heat sink compound?

Put another video card and see what will happen with your CPU Temp.
Try OC your 2.4 to 2.8 see if it works, if not, get another cpu, I don't think you'll be able to do that with stocked heatsink thus

hm........well maybe the 9600pro runs hotter and increaeses the temperature of your case? but teh 9600pro is made on a smaller die size so it should technically run cooler

o_O

40c isnt hot at all under load. id LOVE to have my CPU at 40c haha
