I am looking to updgrade from a Geforce3 to a direct X 9 capable card. Looks to me like there are some serious gaps / problems with the product lines from both of these companies:

ATI: I would consider the 9700 or 9800, but I am hearing a lot of complaints about driver problems, heat problems, systems crahing, etc.

Nvidia: Geforce 5600 is too marginal an improvement to justify ANY expenditure. 5800 is a dead horse. 5900 isn't even out there yet- and will probably be really expensive.

I guess a lot of people are (such as me) will just have to wait 5 months?

There were a few problems early on with the Radeon 9700/9800 with heat and system crashing. The heat problem was fixed in the move from 9700 to 9800, and the crashing problem can be solved as long as you have adequate power/cooling, and the latest drivers. I say go for a 9800 pro. 5 months is a way long time!

Just a note, I don´t have any driver problems with my 9700Pro.

Never heard about this heat-issue. What´s up?

wanna see a driver problem with ati's card? hit the window key as you play unreal 2 watch it crash in a heartbeat. never had that problem with a nvidia card. isn't that big a deal over all.. but does show a problem with there drivers ...still. as far as purchasing a new video card?
i would go with the 9700 pro if u dont have a money tree out back its compatible and it does work fine and i have an oven for a computer as it is. just as the other dude said. you have to have the power to operate it.. least 450w worth.
if you think a 6% speed boost is worth an extra 200 dollars? then get the 9800 pro. and wait it out til Nvidia gets done with rehab for all those drugs they are taking as of late. and help give them a lesson of how easily they can go the way of the dodo and 3dfx.
