Hi Guys,
To cut a long story short, I was owed £60 (I'm in UK) by a store as
part of a refund for a returned item. I said I would prefer goods to
the value and we settled on 2 Palm devices. A Palm Tungsten E and a
Palm Zire 21.
These had been display items and they came to me with nothing but the
power cables.
I have managed to find and buy a sync cable for the Tungsten but I have
no software of any kind for either of these Palms except what is
actually on them.
What, if anything, do I need to install on the desktop and is there an
easy place to get it from?
This is my first venture into the world of Palm so be gentle, lol
Cheers,
Steve

Go to the Palm web site, and there you can download the desktop software
(free).
The build-in software on the Palm's is often times all that some people
want or need. However, if you want more then, try some of these web
sites:
Suggest reading to forums associated with your devices at 1src.com which
can tell you lots of little things about your devices that you might not
discover on your own, and there is always a posting of what are your
favorite apps. Heck a google search of this news group will turn up
several favorite app postings.
But I'm not going to list my favorite apps today. I'm sure others will
follow with theirs.

In addition to Mr. Harris' excellent post, I would like to submit for
your approval this link, which is primarily a list of TE links to
forums, downloads, etc:

There is so much you can do with a Palm these days given the right software.
The first step is to identify what type of software you are looking for.
Mostly I use Pocket Quicken (to add items to my checking, credit card and
savings account information and later download to Quicken) and Autoslate (to
track my motorcycle expenses like fuel economy) but there are literaly
thousands of type of software out there to do just about anything you want.
Bob Harris listed some of the sites but if you do a google search for
freeware palm you'll find a lot more. If you ever need some advice on a
problem you're having just stop by and ask, someone will be sure to help you
out.

Steve, this was very nice of you to offer your help. This is one other
reason why I'm happy to be a dedicated Palm owner for over six years. I've
owned a IIIx, 105m, 505m and a Tungsten C and was happy with all of them
[except for maybe the 105m ].

Hi again,
I have been to the suggested sites and downloaded the main desktop
software and all works fine. The problem now is that I keep seeing
reference to ".......... which is on the CD that came with your
product".
If some kind soul would have a look at what is on the CD and then tell
me if there is a way to get it as part of an after sales deal, I'd be
very grateful.
Cheers,
Steve

If you go to the PalmOne site and find the model you have and then click the
"In The Box" tab you'll find a list of the bundled software, which is
mostly commercial software on which Palm pays royalties, so I doubt there's
any way to get it free.
Supposedly you can order a replacement CD for the Zire 72.

If you go to one of the palm warez groups someone there might be able to
post the CD contents for you. I did that for someone here recently but he
had a Tungsten C.
