Radeon 7500: Blurry text at higher refresh rates?

I just bought an $800 22" Mitsubishi CRT monitor capable of up to 2048x1538 at 75Hz refresh. My ATI All in Wonder Radeon 7500 also maxes out at this resolution.

When I set the display properties to 60 Hz refresh, text on my monitor is crisp and clear at all resolutions that I commonly use (1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200) but when I set refresh to 70Hz and higher text appears more and more blurry (and somewhat more bold) the higher the refresh rate is.

I tried a premium VGA cable (Belkin High Integrity VGA cable), but noticed no improvement. I tried an identical Mitsubishi monitor, but no improvement. Are other people seeing this problem with their ATI 7500 cards?

..I don't see the point of getting to resolution more than 1600x1200
if you are using WindowsXP, then try change the display setting in Control Panel, there is sth where you can check for clear font, but I forgot where since i'm using Win2000 now

Right, I'm not concerned about resolutions higher than 1600x1200. I'm saying that at 1600x1200 or even at 1024x768, setting to 60 Hz refresh results in crystal clear text (in any font), but when I increase the refresh rate to avoid the flickering, the text becomes more and more blurry the higher I set refresh. I'd like to run at 1600x1200 at 75Hz but this is considerably more blurry than at 60 Hz.

I'm wondering if this is the fault of my monitor or ATI graphics card?

Thats strange. I would have to say that something is wrong with your monitor...

does it get really bad when you push it to 100Hz or more in 1024x768?

and does a degaus do anything?

Any monitor or graphics card may give you the same problem. To be honest I don't really know whether it's the monitor or graphics card, but I've tried this over several GCs and monitors and the higher you take the refresh rate the blurrier the text gets.

Don't worry it's not just YOUR graphics card or monitor it's all of them to a certain extent.

Im thinking that the video card isnt communicating with the monitor right or something. Is the monitor driver Default Monitor or is it normal? With my card and monitor (PALIT MX440, AppleVision Kt17") if i go to 80hz at 1024x768, the text is pretty blurry. 70hz seems to be good.

I think I have seen this post question B4 (a while back now) & it turned out to be a weakness of that series RAMDAC... dunno if it was all 7500's or just a batch...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat... (Click me name to see me spec)
