ok, i think i have a buyer for my ti4600 he made me an offer and isnt online right now so i cant seal the deal, but i believe it is sold.
so i now will need a card.
i have 150$ towards it now and i would like to keep the out of pocket cost to around $200.00 if possible, obviosly i dont want to end up with a ti4600 level of gpu though, otherwise why bother.
that gives me around 350$ what do i get ?
it is going in my new system, p4p800 deluxe 865pe asus, p4 2.6
512 corsair pc3200. wd raptor, creative 5.1, liteon 52 cd/rw.
i play lots of games and like the newer games like d3 and viet cong.
my ti 4600 barely ran them with my old setup, 266a /1800+.

should i be looking at a radeon 9700? are they far ahead of the ti4600, mine was a 4x.
i know we get hundreds of these posts so sorry for that.

Yeah a 9700 Pro is far above a 4600, and might just be what youre looking for, but if you say youve got about 350, i think u can get a 9800 non-pro for that.
Look around.

read those 100 posts and narrow your thesis...

or just go buy an ATI 9700 form somewhere in Canada if you have that kind of money to spend...

I would go with the ATI 9700pro. With the information I got from (TomsHardware.com), and the noticable $50 cost difference from (Pricewatch.com) it seems the ATI 9700pro is the best choice for the money.

Are you running 2x256mb pieces for the total 512mb PC3200? If not you should consider upgrading this area as well. Take advantage of the 8x AGP as well as the Dual Channel Ram, all in one shot.

yes im using the dual channell and will run the 2x256
i found many 9700 pro's for 100$ less than a 9800pro, $275 matter of fact.
and the cheapest 9800 pro i found was 379.$ usa dollars.

i think im going to get the 9700 pro, i re-read some reviews and looked again at performance, it seems like a decent card, i want to be ready for dx9 and take advantage of the 8x agp if there is an advantage.
so it will cost me 125$ and my ti 4600, not a bad upgrade.

Decent? Its the 2nd best card on the market (behind 9800 Pro) that you dont have to worry about starting a fire when you leave it on and go somewhere!
