I've got a gigabyte 9700 pro, and I recently update its driver to catalyst 3.4, but I have encountered a problem, after running my pc for a few hours, my display turns to 4 bit color and resolution is set to 400x800(?) and if I attempt to turn those values up, the system will hang,

now, is this a driver problem? am I wrong to assume that ati drivers are competable to all radeon products?

and a stupid question. what are the symptoms of video card overheating?

Sounds like a driver problem. Try turning off Smartgart.

When video cards overheat they can do a bunch of weird stuff, like showing corrupted textures and geometry, and just plain crashing.

display turns to 4 bit color and resolution is set to 400x800. the text becomes really weird..

so there is a posibility that the above problem is caused by video card overheating?
