I cannot find a single benchmark on the difference between the geforce4 ti4800 vs the 4600 vs the 4200. Could someone please tell me what the differeneces are.

The Ti4800 is a Ti4600 with 8xAGP
The Ti4800SE is a Ti4400 with 8xAGP

Since 8xAGP offers no real benefit in gaming speed, there is no reason to choose a 4800 over a 4600, or vice versa.

Just remember that if it is a 4800SE, it's running at slower clocks than a Ti4600...

I know you were asking about the 4xxx series, and I know you were probably looking for some help on them, so don't flame me, but have you thought about looking at ati's latest offerings? A 9500Pro can be found cheaper than a 4800, and it offers dx9. Of course, you may not want an ati card (for whatever reason) and that would be the last of that.

Go with a 4200 with 8x agp. If you want to pay a little more you can get a 5800 (non-ultra), (this is if you want a GeForce).

ATI makes good cards- but I prefer Nvidia because I have an Nvidia based motherboard- but that's my opinion.

If you need a GeForce Ti get the Abit Siluro Geforce4 Ti4200 64MB for $89 on Newegg (note that the Ti4200 128MB cards on the page are listed as "refurbished", but the Ti4200 64MB is not, it's new). It's a steal.

why would you go for a 4200 with 8x if the 4600 is faster?

IMHO the whole Ti series are all close enough in performance to each other that I can't think of a good reason not to get the 4200 unless you wanna step up to a Radeon 9500.

But that's just what I think.

exactly. and most 4200s can be overclocked to almost 4600 speeds. not quite with the ram, but the core usually can be

I benchmarked the TI4200 vs the TI4800SE (I didn't know it was SE until later) I used 3DMark2003, on the TI4200 both the 2nd and 3rd test were unbarable...but on the 4800Se they could be watched (Still sucked, but got like 1 - 2 fps better). I went with the 4800se because it was the same price to me.
