I Just put tegether my new system but have yet to upgrade my Vid card. I am currently using a Radeon 9000 Pro (Which isn't that old). To my knowledge the 9000 Pro is not a DX9 supported card.

When i ran 3d mark 2003 I scored an abismal 1200 (Yes 12 hundred).

I have a :
p4 2.4c
1 Gig corsair C2 (in dual mode)
redeon 9000 pro

Please tell me this is an expected score for the 9000 pro or i'm gonna cry.

That doesn't seem unrealistic for a 9000, sorry. Some of these guys with 9700's have only been getting 4,300 or so. Are you going to upgrade the video card?

Yes, there is that and the hard drive next on the list. After that is all cake. Speakers and sound card and not a priority.

3dMark 2003 isn't for directX 9 cards only, but it does contain tests that will only work with a Dx9 card, so having a Dx9 card would make your score higher.

1200 isn't bad at all for a 9000 pro!

Well I'm really upgrading for HL2 and D3.
My problem is this card is going into another system and i need a replacement in a week or so.
So am i upgrading to increase my 3d mark score? Yup.
But i have to upgrade regardless.
I was thinking waiting a week or so to see if 9700 prices drop any. If they go below 400 i would consider picking one up.

That seems about right. I got pretty much the same score with my R8500.

$400 for a Radeon 9700? Newegg has ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Retail for $309. Unless you were talking about Radeon 9800 Pro which can also be found for $389.

Pretty much

from the test.htm file included with 3DMark2003

The 3DMark total score is calculated using the following formula:

3DMark score = (GT1fps * 7.3) + (GT2fps * 37) + (GT3fps * 47.1) + (GT4fps * 38.7)

Notice how the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tests are heavily weighted while the 1st test carries almost no weight in the final 3DMark score. Plus, if your card can't even perform the 4th test then you get zero points for it.

I'm in the same situation as you. I get about 1330 points with a highly overclocked Radeon R8500 and an Athlon at 2.1 Ghz.

wow. you put me to shame. i use radeon 9000 pro and only scored 1104. only that flying demo ran above 10 fps. it was almost amusing until i realized i actually paid money for the video card.

So after some tweaking (CPU,MoBo,Radeon) I've been able to steadly get a score in the 1490's which is not that bad compared to what some other people are getting.
