Twice faster than NV35, according to nVidia.

Remeber NV30 and NV35, they also said is twice as fast as the previous one, and what's the result? PR word can never be trusted.

It is morally wrong to allow suckers to keep their money

This is making me laugh my a$$ off, since all the talk over Nvidia cheating. With added fuel, “many games would have certain features that only nVidia users would be able to take advantage of”. If Nvidia had it their way no games would run on an ATI board. ATi better keep them drivers rolling out.

Don't wanna play the pessimist but: Twice faster can mean twice the clock speed but not twice the performance!

You're a realist, Eden, not a pessimist. And you're absolutely right. People hear "twice as fast" and their minds go to frame rates. Hmmm, let's compare 5800 Ultra clockspeeds with Radeon 9800 Pro clockspeeds. Which board gets better frame rates?

LOL, this time 1 GHz clock speed!!!

Seriously speaking, if nVidia can really make a chip clocked 1 GHz, some morons will surely buy it.

The good thing is that nVidia now understands that NV3X is totally screwed up architecture.

I hate it when they keep releasing new ones while the older cards are just left with no better solution. All they do for this is just to gain market crown instead of for the good of consumers.

nvidia does not deserve such an amount of nvidiots that makes them still leader.
Well said! But not all nVidia buyers are nVidiot. IMO, we can call GF-FX and GF4 MX buyers "nVidiot"

This is very unfortunate for current geForce FX buyers, especially FX5900 and 5600 Ultra buyers (future version), as they are, IMO, the stand-outs of the serie. And then comes the fact that OEMs who sell now in volume the GF FX5200, will not have much driver support.
I admit though the 5800 Ultra's new drivers make it a damn good performer, and brings the 5800 to 9700PRO levels, all the while costing maybe less. That and better AA+Aniso performance.
But, unfortunately, it seems DirectX 9 & nVidia are very much enemies.

Well, this actually makes the buyer of previous GF4Ti series a bit happier and worth while...at least for those who bought it long before the radeon 9x00 were introduced...

Did it ever occur to (some of) you guys that the NV40 might end up a good, honest chip, in a fast, reliable card? I think nVidia has learned its lesson, whether they'll admit it or not. The FX6000 (or whatever) could easily (and hopefully will) be a great card.

Funny thing is, I have a feeling that by then, ATi will have something even more amazing. But that is pure speculation.

Did it ever occur to you that it is IMPOSSIBLE for nVidia to be honest now, cause about 2 years ago nVidia sold its soul to the Devil so hed make em some better GeForce 3 drivers so it would beat the 8500. Those were the first cheating drivers, and the saga will continue.
The devil owns 51% of nVidias stock.
Too bad.

Long live ATI.

Well, here's to hoping. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking. It'd be nice to see some good honest competition! Haven't seen any of that in a while, have we?

I agree with you Daddy. Nobody should shun away another generation of cards. It's closemindedness at its best. If nVidia does not compete, that means ATi will NOT produce better cards at regular intervals.

Are you actually saying that the Detonator XP were cheats?
How in the world can you then explain, if nVidia did not make these, that the geForce 3, equipped with LMA and many optimizations compared to the geForce 2 Ultra, AND came with DirectX 8, did not beat the Ultra?
Explain to me how, and why should suddenly drivers that make it perform, are cheats.
What if ATi's new Radeon 8500 performance is a cheat?

True dat, Eden. That's where the Radeon 9700 Pro came from. Competition spawns better products. If ATi has no immediate competition, then they'll have no need to keep spewing out top quality cards like that shiny new Radeon 9800 Pro. On the negative side, you'd think that nVidia would've learned its lesson by now, right?

You said yourself there were driver cheats (dont know from which version that started) that made it perform better in certain things such as the nature test in 3dmark 2001.
So wtf?
Your post comes accross as vaguely sarcastic.. but its hard to tell.

Long live ATI.

The problem for me is that there is NO competition if there is no fair arbiter to judge the leader. Without the push to beat someone on the fair playing field there will be no refreshes and we will return to the era of, well it can't even play Splinter Cell-II or UT 2K5 so I guess they need a new card. No way of anticipating it and maybe getting blind-sided when you are low on funds. Also maybe the return to the days when it was 2.5mb IS definitely better than 1. I still remember the boxes with the minimum requirement 2mb video ram. 'Awww dang my Thinkpad 380E with 1mb shared ain't gonna play it!' And it DIDN'T! But it did play on an onboard 4mb shared. Sad!

'Yahoo my FX5200 256 is better than the R9500P 64mb Yipee!'

*shudders* Scary man, Scary!
