I will buy a new graphics card but it´s hard to find the "perfect card" Can someone make a "ranking list" of graphics gards form the best (Radeon 9800 PRO/Geforce fx5900 Ultra) to geforce 3 ti200?

(levels with an equal sign means they're pretty much on par with each other, give or take a benchmark or two)

10. Geforce3 = Radeons 9000, 9200
9. Radeon 8500 = Radeon 9100
8. Radeon 9500 = Geforce4 Ti4200
7. Geforce4 Ti 4400, 4800SE
6. Geforce4 Ti 4600, 4800
5. Geforce FX 5600 = Radeon 9600 PRO
4. Radeon 9500 PRO
3. Geforce FX 5800 ULTRA = Radeon 9700
2. Radeon 9700 PRO
1. Geforce FX 5900 ULTRA = Radeon 9800 PRO

If your computer is old the best card for you could be a geforce3 or a geforce2.you cant really say that a card is the best,it depends.If you look at speed the Geforce 5900pro is number 1,if consider price and value the ATI 9700 might be your choice......

Yes, the list above is assuming a newer processor where your CPU won't bottleneck the system.

With a newer processor (1800 rating or better) it is fairly easy to say which card is better than which, however.

I got a Pentium 1.5 ghz, 512 mb ram, geforce 2 mx 400
And I need a new graphics card... I think i will buy a Geforce 4 ti4800SE, they are not so expensive

No No No dont do it!
For about the same price maybe a teensy bit more you can get a 9500 Pro or a 9600 Pro.
Id recommend either over the 4800SE.

That proc might be a bit of a bottleneck, so buying a highend card won't do that much good. Should do okay with a 9500 Pro.

I'd say the current best is the 9800 Pro 128mb. Second best is a tie between 5900 Ultra 256mb and 9800 Pro 256mb. You see, the 9800 256 and 128 differ very little. Both will compete easily with a 5900 Ultra. Here's the catch: The 9800 Pro 128 is $100 cheaper than the 9800 256 and $100-$150 cheaper than a 5900 Ultra (If you can ever find one). Therefore, you can't go wrong with a 9800 Pro.

To my defence, my list doesn't take into account price, just raw performance of different video cards.

A best price/performance list would have the $200 Radeon 9700 non-pro on the top, methinks. Now THAT's a deal...

Yep, the 9700 non-pro is hard to beat at that price. And if he can save enough money to upgrade the system a lower board (9500pro/9600pro) might work, but maybe make that the next project in a coupla months.
