Remember: Computers are made from individually affordable parts, a 500 euro PC should have a 175 euro video card ---- certainly not a GT640.
- The good news is that the GT640may serve him will in the short term.

The GT 640 isn't the greatest video card....
- It's not the worst either, but I'd rank it under the Radeon HD 7750 which everyone seems to think the Xbox 720 will be based upon.

Ask them if they can put a GTX650 in instead of a GT640.
- The numbers 'sound' close but the performance is light-years apart.
http://www.hwcompare.com/13461/geforce-gt-640-ddr3-vs-g...

If someone here was building one by hand 500 euro's would probably get a GTX660 (non Ti) which is a really good value card that will last 18+ months.

The GT640 might only last 6-9 months, so for it's cost it's value in cost per day is quite bad.

eBay has really high costs for merchants, and sadly they need to pass those costs on to the consumer....

If you've already purchased it I wouldn't worry to much
- If you are dead set on that merchant then DEMAND a GTX650 for the same price.

Seriously, his margin on that PC is HUGE!

The GT640 certainly will NOT play games on multiple monitors, that is a false and misleading statement.

If you copy/paste each component into StaticIce UK, you'll be able to order a much better system and may even save money.
- Put it together for Christmas, maybe find a PC tech mate to help you out as a Christmas gift 'service'. ;-)

sorry to say but you wont get a decent gaming pc for £500--unless its second hand

especially if you need a mouse and keyboard and monitor

and personally i wouldnt get a new pc from ebay--never know what support you will get if any problems with it

if in the uk i would use ebuyer or similar

http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Computer/cat/Gaming-PC

even there any under £600 arent what i would call decent--and you still need mouse and keyboard

and monitor and speakers or headphones if you dont have those

It's a 30 pound video card the creep is attaching USD$499-$999 claims to in his ad (multi monitor gaming isn't cheap).
================================================

This is the mouse I would get your son, it's a fairly well priced Logitech G400:
- The link above will show UK vendors.
- Wired keyboard/mouse will minimize lag as much as possible, they're also cheaper.

This is the video card I would recommend instead:

This is the CPU, the Core i5 consumed too much percent in that build, so I've spec'd a Core i3 which is dual-core + hyperthreading:
- It's 90% the performance of the Core i5 in games at half the price!

Which can be paired with an Intel H61 series motherboard:
- When you order the motherboard order Windows 7 Home Premium OEM with it.

Get 2x4GB of Kingston ValueRAM (DDR3-SDRAM):
- It's dirt cheap, so get 8GB (2x4GB)
- The name is misleading, it actually has excellent performance.

A 750GB HDD will last ages and save some euro's:
- Just make sure it's a 7200rpm, SATA II+, model

If no-one can help you with it I'll see what sort of support Toms Hardware Forums can drum up, as it's a Christmas present for your son.
- I saved for my own PCs when I was under 18, but hey, it's the same sort of thing.

If you only want to spend 406 GBP (500 Euro's) I think I may be able to pull off a bit of a miracle, as the motherboards in question dropped in price 3% to 10% today.
- Bear in mind I'm in Australia, but I know how to squeeze every cent of value out of a build.

Thank you so much for your help.I having been looking over and over ebay and Amazon and was getting totally confused.Wish i'd have asked on here earlier. I will email the seller and ask if he can change it to the GTX650.
Big thanks

Yeah, cheaper processor with a guaranteed upgrade path (Core i5, Core i7, etc. down the track) is where money is saved that is reinvested in a GPU that is significantly more powerful, instead of pairing a CPU that is overpowered with an GT640.

- The 750 watt 'branded' PSU really indicates that the system has an upgrade path, as even the video card can be upgraded later (18 to 36 months is when the resale value of the NVIDIA GTX650 will remain attractive).

- While I'm curious as to which brand the PSU is, by the looks of their other stock I am not concerned about it either.

That is a much better system, but isn't is 100 pounds over your initial budget?
- If you're an eBay person, and trust the seller, go for it I am sure your son would love the machine.
- 1 Year Collect and Return Warranty, etc.

Either way: Ask for a phone number with pick-up & business address, even if you want the unit shipped.
- I just don't want to come back later to find that the eBay seller didn't ship the unit, that's all.

================================
- Personally, I wouldn't buy from eBay when www.staticice.co.uk is so much cheaper and has companies that have higher trust within the community (usually).

- eBay charges sellers about $1 per item to advertise the item for sale, that's $365 per year, if they don't move much stock they need to pass that cost onto the consumer.

The warranty from an eBay seller might not be as useful as sourcing all the parts from a reputable seller (www.staticice.co.uk) and asking if they can assemble and ship before Christmas.
================================

Oh and Merry Christmas to the both of you!

Go into Control Panel>Device Manager, find that Realtek 8111 device under Network Adaopters - probably with a yellow mark beside it - then right click that and go to Properties.

Click the Details tab, then scroll to Hardware IDs and note down the four characters after VEN for Vendor and the four which follow DEV for Device. Go to http://www.pcidatabase.com and input those details in the relevant boxes and you will see the list of all the right manufacturer's products but sadly, they aren't in order. Use Internet Explorers Edit menu then Find to type in the DEVice ID and the search will find the correct entry. Follow the link to the site for the correct driver and download it.

The manufacturer's own website is always the safest place from which to download drivers.
