9800 NON-PRO card benchmarks?

I'm considering a new PC that seems to be a great deal. One catch though - the best vid card it comes with is the 325 Mhz 9800 (no PRO in the name) instead of the 380 MHz 9800 Pro version. Has anyone seen any reviews of this lesser version, preferably matched up against its bigger brother and a 9700 Pro? Or have any personal experience with it? I'd like to know how big the speed difference is, Etc.

I've never seen a review for a 9800 non-pro. Must be a spoecial version bundled with the PC you're considering, like the Radeon 9700 TX (an underclocked 9700)

Since 325 Mhz is the same speed that a 9700 PRO runs at, and considering that the 9800 PRO is basically a 9700 with very few enhancements besides a speed increase, I'd say this card will probably perform within 5% of a 9700 PRO... assuming the memory speeds are also the same as a 9700 PRO.

I've been doing quite a bit of reading on various sites over the last month as I try to convince myself to buy a 9800 pro and I honestly can't remember having come across a review including the non-pro (though I did see one for sale on e-bay the other day). Given how performance gains usually work I would guess that as most reviews contain 9800 pro and 9700 pro marks side by side you could look at them and get a pretty good idea of how it will perform. I'd be willing to bet it could take a fx5800. :)

I picked up a built by ati radeon 9800np @ BB yesterday. Here are some specs and benches, youll have to compare on your own.

Clock speeds 325/290
Memory- 128mb samsung 2.8ns rated @ 700mhz
I cranked it up to 350/310 out of the box and all is good.
$299
It replaces the 9700pro on the shelves
Same core as 9800pro
You are probably talking about the DELL OEM version, it has the same clocks as the built by ATI
3dmark 2003-5003
GLexcess 8534
3Dmark 2001se - 13131 (little disappointed here)
These scores are on a P4 2.25 NW and 512mb ddr333

I do not recall ATi making a non-PRO. Did it come boxed with ATi's design?

Yes, it is a built by ATI card, the box is the exact same as the 9800 pro except it doesnt say pro, thats the only difference. Best Buy does'nt sell 3rd party cards where ati products are concerned.

Thanks for the info twc. I decided to go ahead and get the system with the 9800 NP (from HP actually). It will be paired with a 2.8 Ghz P4c and 512 of 3200 DDR. Looking at that article Tom did on the 9800 Pro when it first arrived I'm guessing it will be a hair better then the 9700 Pro. And that will probably be fast enough for me to play HL2 & Doom 3 comfortably. If not, its always nice to know I can overclock it a bit. Will need to get some much better cooling in my new box before I try to approach Pro levels though.

Ya,
I'll bet that HP does'nt even have a exhaust fan in it, I've got 5 in mine plus the PS has 2. Anyways enjoy!
