I have an AMD Athlon 2.0Ghz machine, 256mb of RAM (standard 133) and a MSI mobo with an 2x/4x AGP Slot. I want to replace the old graphics card (unknown OEM supplier) with something that with allow me to run the latest games.

I have been recommended the Sparkle FX 5200 which I can pick up for £75. I have £100 to spend, can anyone recommend what should be a good card for this money?

Thanks, Microkid42.

First off, stay away from the 5200. It is slow and crappy compared to the competition.

The best budget cards are the Radeons 8500, 9000, 9100, and 9200.

If you can afford a bit more, you won't regret bumping up to the Geforce4 Ti 4200 though. That card is very good for the price, and quite a bit better than those budget radeons.

Yeah, the 5200 sucks. I'd go with the Ti4200 because you get a good bit more bang for little more buck. If not, then the 9200

its AMAZING how many people will recommend the GFFX5200 simply because it has GFFX in the name. lol that card is worthless (for the price its at)

you can get a 9100 Radeon for less, im betting. and it WILL be faster. its pixel shader engine and fill rate are both superior to the GFFX5200 hands down. read anywhere, ANYWHERE, and you will see for yourself

GFFX5200*Ultra*? yes thats a different story. and again a higher price point. probably almost as much as a 5600GFFX because the 5200 wasnt that far behind really to begin with

1900 = 1.6
2000 = 1.666

Their old stepping was 66mhz to the next model, then they realised they were overrating their top models, and now the stepping is 83mhz. Cept for the 400mhz fsb models.
