My cd and dvd are nto recognized by my computer at all. When I go to "my
computer", there is no record of the drives existing, likewise in device
mananger. I think the problem started because of adware, because after
removing some adware, sometimes by dvd drive is recognized and works fine.
Please help. Thanks.

Hi Paul,

See if this helps:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm

Under section 8 - Problems - there is a link to a patch that often resolves
this problem

drive still comes up only sometimes, and the cd drive never appears. Please
let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks a lot for the help.

What should I do from the system bios, please explain all the steps. And
also, if this helps, whenever I plug my ipod into the computer, it makes a
triple beeping noise, but doesn't recognize the ipod as existing anywhere on
both usb ports and firwire ports. If you have any ideas please let me know,
but let me know exactly what i should do from the beginnning. Thanks.

Then it's a problem with either the cabling or the motherboard slot itself.
Possibly intermittent, which is why you see them occasionally. I would
suspect either a bad cable, or a problem with the IDE slot. The former is
easy to fix by replacing cabling. The latter means either a new MB or
installing a PCI controller card as a workaround.

Really? Well that's too bad, but thanks for your help. I'm just a little
skeptical because that doesn't explain why I'm having trouble with my
computer recognizing my iPod from USB or Firewire ports. I guess just let me
know if you think it might be something else. Otherwise thanks again for all
your help. I appreciate it.
