Hi, I received a Dell Dimension 3000 for Christmas. I have been a webtv
subscriber since 98 and this is my 1st PC. The 3000 has a Celeron
processor with XP Home. It has 2.4 Ghz. 533 FSB. Memory is a 512 MB,
with an 80 GB Hard Drive.
My use for this would be for downloading and burning CD's and midi.
Also used for digital pics and videos, some graphics, and possibly
recording original music with some type of studio software.
My question is, is the Celeron and the system I have, capable of
doing these things?
I have also heard that there are some glitches in the Celeron system
that can effect the quality of music downloads and digital pics.

Please respond to my email too, and thanks very much in advance for your
input.

Your Celeron can do these things acceptably, but you would get much better
performance out of a CPU upgrade to a true P4 chip. But, since this is your
first PC to speak of, it should take good care of you for a while.

The big difference between the Celeron and the P4 is the amount of onboard
cache that the processor has. Your system is socket compatable with the
higher performing P4's, so if money is a bit tight ( Xmas being 2 days
ago ), wait a few months and get a newer CPU.

With the amount of memory, hard drive capacity and processor speed in the
system, you should have no trouble doing what you want to do. Elitists and hard
core games look down their noses at the Celeron CPUs, but they offer excellent
value for the price... Ben Myers
