actually, the title of the post was completely misleading. Since this is the other section, I thought I should be able to get away with a little journalistic freedom...
Anyway, does anyone know how to recover data off of a hard drive who's partition information was just lost? Windows somehow doesnt know this guy has a partition on it, so I re-created it, but I dont have access to the data until I format it.... should I format it and then try to access teh data using programs?
Thanks..

low level is a way to completely remove ALL data that may be hiding on your hard drive following a conventional format and/or repartition

That gives a basic definition of the process

Wherever you go, there you are.
When you format the drive, it doesn't necessarily take off all the data. All it does is basically wipe the FAT so it thinks there is nothing on it, when in fact most of the times there is still a lot of data left on it. It just goes back and writes over the old information.
