Hi all,

A friend wanted me to ask this...

Can he use Riptide Shapeshifter's ability and choose "no type"
so that he can reveal cards and put a creature with no type
(e.g. Darksteel Colossus) into play?

I told him I didn't think so, for a similar reason that a Birds
of Paradise can't tap for "colorless" mana, but he wanted me
to check anyway.

Riptide Shapeshifter
{3}{U}{U}
Creature -- Shapeshifter
3/3
{2}{U}{U}, Sacrifice Riptide Shapeshifter: Choose a creature type.
Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a
creature card of that type. Put that card into play and shuffle
the rest into your library.

Darksteel Colossus
{11}
Artifact Creature
11/11
Trample
Darksteel Colossus is indestructible. ("Destroy" effects and lethal
damage don't destroy it.)
If Darksteel Colossus would be put into a graveyard from anywhere,
reveal Darksteel Colossus and shuffle it into its owner's library
instead.

Thanks!

No. "No type" is not a creature type.

Nope.

You're correct; you have to choose a creature type on resolution. It
doesn't have to be one that's legal for Type II, or one that's on a card
in your deck - but it does have to be an existing creature type. RS can't
pop out a creature card that has no creature type.

What he wants to do is use Conspiracy, so that all the creature cards in
his deck DO have a creature type...

Thanks a bunch Dave...that's what I figured.

Heh...didn't know about the card "Conspiracy"...that's a neat one.
I've got a few uses for that one myself; I'll have to pick up a few
copies of that! Thanks again!
