some older onboards (mainly intel) cant run aero, if you really want aero, you could always buy a low end graphics card if you have a spare pcie slot.

Can you look in device manager to tell us what graphics adapter you use? If you don't already know how:
Open the start menu, and in the search box type "device". In the search results, click "Device Manager". When device manager opens, click the arrow next to "Display Adapters" to expand that section, if it isn't already. Let us know what you see listed there.

I have Intel R 915GM/GSM,910GML

Sorry tajdar! That graphics adapter is your problem. I have it, too and can't enable Aero. Even though it has 128MB of shared RAM, something about the core timings prevents it from supporting the WDDM driver necessary for Aero. There was quite a large uproar over the whole thing with this adapter, as many systems with that chipset were sold as "Vista capable". That had never been defined as Aero capable, but many people were confused over it. So, the graphics card can't support Aero because Aero requires certain specifications in the core timings of the chip that the Intel 915GM/915GSM,910GML doesn't support. Some think that hacked drivers are possible, but everyone seems to pass the hat to the next person for it and I've never seen one. Intel says it can't be done and blames MS for requiring WDDM and defining its specs too narrowly.

I am doubting that a equivalent older ATI or nVidia based onboard would be able to run Aero at all or even decently.

im sure there are some cheap pcie cards (50 bucks for a 4650!) or even regular pci cards that can handle vista aero for cheap.
