In the dell.com detail page under the title "Slots" the following
appears: "Connectors: (1) Type I or Type II card"

Does that mean PCMCIA/Cardbus?

If so, is there only one such connector?

Yes there is one slot for a type 1 or 2 pcmcia card. This is pretty
standard.
With this laptop it is unlikely you will need this at all.
