Hey guys. I just got my new Inspiron 5150 this morning. I'm now testing it for stability and to make sure there are no problems. I really love it though IMO the keyboard layout could've been better. I'll 3DMark it later. Prolly do a clean install on it too.
And thanks too to superboss, rapture and natport for helping me make my choice.
aye thanks. Just wondering. Is there any way to monitor the temperature of the processor? The fan operates at low speed all the time but when it goes high speed the air coming out is relly warm. And why does the dvd-rom only lets me set the region 5 times? No such problems with a friend's compaq x1075.
Keep an eye on this <A HREF="http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html" target="_new">site</A> to see if FanGUI is updated for use on the I5150.
The DVD region should have to be set once. Unless you get DVD's from different regions. ex. Asia
Well i tried the version 2.1.0 and it could read the temperature quite well. I didn't try the fan control though. But one problem is that it tends to have conflict with other software running at the same time. I got kick out of 3dmark01 and 03 and civilization2. Ah well it doesn't matter now that I've made certain that the lappy is operating within specs. Thanks zpyrd.
I also recommend using the Dell Community Forum for more info about your notebook.
That is where I found out about FanGUI. I use it on my Inspiron 8100. I also use it only to monitor system temperatures and to make sure the fans start and stop at the default bios settings.
The forums can be found on the Dell US customer service web page.
Hehe unfortunately my choice was made far less complicated due to the fact that the 8600 was too expensive. I saw a refurbished one with dvd-rw, 128mb GF FX5650 and 512MB ram going for just a little more than what I paid for the 5150. But I decided to go with a new one rather than a repaired one.
