Hello, I'm purchasing a new laptop and unsure of which would be best a core i3 with 4GB ram 500GB HD or a Pentium dual core with 6GB ram 500GB HD

Core i3.

What are the actual CPUs you're asking about?

If the Core i3 is a Core i3-330M (Arrandale) and the Pentium dual core is a Pentium B960 (Sandy Bridge) - the Pentium B960 would be the better option.
