Greetings,

My opponent has Heartseeker attached to a Skyhunter Skirmisher.

Heartseeker
{4}
Artifact -- Equipment
Equipped creature gets +2/+1 and has "{T}, Unattach Heartseeker: Destroy
target creature."
Equip {5} ({5}: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a
sorcery. This card comes into play unattached and stays in play if the
creature leaves play.)

Skyhunter Skirmisher
{1}{W}{W}
Creature -- Cat Knight
1/1
Flying, double strike

My opponent claims that he is going to attack with SS - AND since it has the
HS on it he will unnattach it and destroy one of my creatures.

I said that that was not legal. Either he must tatack - and SS +3/+2 Flyer
with Double Strike OR he must tap and activate the HS ability. Am I right?

Regards,
NazMan

You are correct. The tapping and unattaching of the Heartseeker are the
costs to activate the ability. If he attacks with the creature, it will
already be tapped and therefor he could not pay the tap cost for Heartseeker
to activate it. So, just like you said, he could either use Heartseeker's
ability, or attack, but not both.

Assuming nothing is giving the Skirmisher the ability many players call
"Vigilance" (the ability to attack without tapping), and nothing is
untapping it, you are correct. If he plays the Heartseeker ability
first, the Skirmisher is tapped and can't attack. If he attacks first,
the Skirmisher is again tapped and he can't pay the cost of the
Heartseeker ability. And there is no way to do both at the same time;
for one thing you can't make the timing work.

You are right. If he uses the H-granted ability before declaring attackers,
his SS will be tapped when it comes to the time to choose attackers, and
can't be chosen. If he attacks with it, it will become tapped from that, and
thus won't be able afterwards to pay the activation cost of the ability H
grants it. He has no way to "attack and use the ability simultaneously". And
double strike has nothing to do with this.

If the SS could attack without tapping, THEN he could do this. But you didn't
mention anything here that would let it do so. And he'd still have to attack
first, then use the H ability after it was already attacking (but not tapped),
in that scenario.
