i´m just curious cus i´m one of the stupid ones who got my radeon 9700pro from sapphire and their (by now) well known screen corruption problem that seems to be on their whole serie of radeon 9xxx cards.

THe 9700 Pro keeps up reasonably well with both new cards. The FX series had some problems at first, but they have mostly been fixed now. If the FX series truly did suck, the 5900 Ultra would not be about as fast as the 9800 Pro.

Who’s going to be the first to buy and report?
One review sight says one thing, while another says another, just how do you determine what card to get.

I own a built by Ati Radeon 9700. I live in canada so I usually stick to BBA only radeons since supply is plentiful here.

I've have heard recently that ati will be producing less and letting there partners do most of it. I a feeling those that there will be still plenty of BBA radeons floating around in canada.

I haven't noticed any screen problems on my card.

The 5900Ultra is the fastest thing out there....
Yes you are right, it's runs much faster (and louder too? not sure about the 5900s) than the 9700/9800Pro.

But the one place where mhz just doesn't cut it is in the Dawn demo and for some reason it runs faster/better on the ATIs, and really what's with all this talk of games, when I can have a Naked Tinkerbell on my desktop. (NO, not that kind of tinkerbell Phial, and don't touch me!)

Anywhoo, I'm still waiting for the Response from Matrox. The Solar Flare should incinerate all competition. Or Maybe the SIS LongXord, because the P10 is dead (Creative's using ATIs).

Oh well back to my desktop. 'Yes, you're a pretty little nymph, yes you are; oh yes you are!'

I wish I could afford to spend $400+ on a video card. I'm always buying the gear that was kick ass about a year ago.
Right now I'm using a Radeon 9500 that's all tricked out that out performs a buddy's stock 9700

It's all good ^_^

What? I've been planning on the Sapphire 9800pro 128mb for my September upgrade for a while. This is the first time I've heard of any "screen corruption" problems.

Is this a common thing with Sapphire? Should I look for another brand?

Wow.

So should I stay away from Sapphire? Is there any truth to this screen corruption mumbo jumbo?

Which was fixed and it still runs faster. It was fixed like last week. Yes they ran even faster than that befoe the fix, but even after, still faster.

Hey remember I've been on this since we first found out we could 'skin' her. I think it's the goofiest marketing ploy out there, especially that whole July 4th thing. It's funny that even reviewers are talking about her as if she were some role model; some appalled (saying it 'sexifies' and objectifies the industry and once again makes it harder for women to embrace gaming [oh really!]), and others who think she's a good role model with an 'attainable/realistic chest'.

I'm telling you, this thing's taken on a life of it's own, and I always find it funny when people complain that all ATI has is the Monkey/Ape (well I like APES!). Silly really!

"The following was said about the opengl wrapper:

It runs 15% faster than NV30 on the 9800pro, and it also runs faster than NV35 (we are unable to personally confirm this but a user with both cards and FRAPS could).

Creates higher quality images than the original due to the normalization being done in a fragment program (dp3/rsq/mul) instead of in a normalization cubemap which the FX extensions does directly in hardware

The OpenGL wrapper adds more overhead, as it has to interperet code calls for Nvidia extensions and map them to ATI/ARB extensions, and yet it still runs faster on the ATI card, due to its more sophisticated pixel shader engine.

Hmm.. more overhead but still faster. And I can see her eyelashes just fine:)

Thanks for posting the link, it's hard to find real games being benchmarked. I was siding towards the 5900u, but the 9800pro kicks it's PCB ass. I'll just have to see if the Leadtek 5900u preforms as well as it looks.

yes the benchmarks speak for themselves but it your hard earned money your spending. So just do whatever meets your needs. As for the guy who said he wishes he could buy a $400 video. Not everyone can and some people are just rich.
From your comment though i'm guessing your young. In due time my friend. I was the same when I was younger. I'm now 23 and have a job. The good thing about videocards though the highend tech always trickles down the lines as better hardware comes out.

its nice to have the lastest and greatest but for some people its just to costly and not practical.
