ALOT of that depends on the manufacturer. Even though alot of Ati's heat sink fans look similar. I currently have a Leadtek Gf4 Ti4200 64mb and it's extremely quiet.

What brand do you have?

Ive got the chaintech Ti4200, It really is unbelievably loud, I dont care how cheap they are I would NOT recommend one! It drowns out the sound of my case fan. Can anyone recommend a quite brand?

Phial;

To slap all ti4200 cards into one group just isnt right.

My ti4200 kicks ass and has excellent 3D image quality, I think you should go check out the Asus v9280S, and you will rethink that stance.

If you want a low noise and high performance cooling solution for your GF4 then a ThermalTake is your best option.

ROFL dont do anything rash my friend, if your ok with the performance of the card and just annoyed by the noise of the fan on the card then just change cooling solutions.

It is easy to change out the factory cooling solution with a different cooling solution, it takes less then 5 minutes even if you have never done it before.

Relax its not hard and you will be happy with this solution.

You can find a great price on this cooling solution at PriceWatch

The fan in those pics is very similar to my one. I also should have mentioned that my card is crashing my machine on a more regular basis. So maybe I have a faulty fan and thats why its so loud. Im going to try and replace the fan today, so I'll be back later in tears if it doesnt work! If it keeps crashing I'll have to consider a new card, dont think I could get the same one again though...

ok, The card is chaintec after all and now it has a new thermaltake fan on it!! It sounds a lot better, Its more of a purr now rather than an old tractor starting up in the cold kinda sound. Its not the official Geforce4 FHS but it seems to work ok so far! thanks for help everyone!

I have a power color R9700pro and it uses the stock ATI fan complete with ATI sticker.
And its a very quiet card. The noise of the fan is easily hidden by noises in the case such as 7200rpm hard drives or the CPU fan.
