9600Pro Reviews. Hynix Memory, eh!?!

Just a few more 9600Pro reviews to give an idea of the difference in cards. Different memory on som it seems.

The ModFathers have a review of the Connect3D 9600Pro which uses, surprisingly, Hynix memory instead of the Samsung memory common on MOST 9600Pros. The Hynix memory is rated at 2.8ns the Samsung is 2.86ns (often mis-stated as 2.8) yet the ooverclock is about the same.

There is also a review of a Gigabyte 9600Pro @ PCstats you can see the Samsung mmory module on the first page.

The memory on the Gigabyte clocked higher (is the Samsung BETTER than the Hynix despite the rating?), but the Core on the Connect3D card clocked higher.

Both reviews come to the same conclusion: An OK mid-level card. Good for gaming, but don't expect too much. As the PCstats article said "not for 3Dmarkers".

And then there is another review from Techseekers where they discover that you can overclcok much further on a Gigabyte card than the V-tuner software lets you. They maxed out at 481/345 using V-tuner, but were able to go to 520/355 using RadClocker.

So those of you with Gigabyte cards may want to switch overclocking utilities if you want the most out of your card if you are set on overclocking (not that I'm advocating overclocking).

Interesting reiew too as it compares the 9500NON-PRO to the 9600Pro and shows that it fall in between the two. It's stock and overclocked performance offer little in the way of surprises, but still nice to see a good number of benchmakrs to show performance in these areas.

u know i have been waiiting for about 4 months now to get a Radeon 9700Pro here, in India. not that i dont get one. i cud get a Hercules one, but that costs about US$750 (when converted from Indian Rupee).

I am looking for another card, made by S-Media (which is realtively new in India in setting up their distribution network and they dont take orders yet). Their 9700Pro costs about US$450 (again, when converted  ) and 9600Pro costs about US$350. the card comes with no bundles - no software, no games. but thats OK.

And for about the price of the S-Media Radeon 9600PRO, i cud get a ASUS card, the Ti4200  and the ASUS Ti4600 costs as much as the S-Media 9700PRO. As crazy as it might sound, thats the truth.

Well you'd have to top the current score before I'd risk my card again. The better comprison for card sake and not just 'who's wang is bigger' would be to clock it at 500/349 like Casual and I did, then it would give us a good comparison over a similar speed.

Of course if you do get one of the rare cards that can reach 530+/360+ then by all means let us/me know.
