Hi all, here is my question:

I don't play so I guess I need a card for 2D only. Do the 2D performance follow the 3D ones (meaning that a faster 3D card is also faster in 2D operations)or do you think there is a card that is better for 2D only?
What I need is high definition and high refresh rate. My current TNT2 M64 for example does 1600*1200*85hz max. My monitor can arrive to 100Hz or same refresh and more resolution. But if I use 32bit color the system is no more usable, too slow.
Would a faster 3D card be even faster for normal 2D operations?

Am I confused or what?

Thank you, ciao, Mario.

A faster card would not speed up 2d operations, but a newer card would probably offer a better RAMDAC that would give you access to higher refresh rates and a crisper display.

Go for a cheap Radeon if 2d is all you're looking for. Ati cards sport excellent RAMDACs.
The Radeon 7200 or 7500, whatever you can find the cheapest.

If you really wants te sharpest 2D! I would buy MATROX! MATROX is the reference in 2D quality.

But money wise any ATI will perform really well!
