I just wante to hear some peoples opinions on this. Currently I use xp pro 32 bit with 4 gb of ddr3. Is there a large peformance increase in games with 64 bit and 8gigs rather than 4?

What other advantages are there then just more ram?

with more ram u will have better multitasking, and sometimes better gaming and some pro-application results. however, 4 GB is enough for anything these days.
for xp 64bit its impossible to find drivers or supported software. there are no any. wait for windows 7, its great, it rocks. get the 64 bit version, i dont even know why 32bit OS are in use.

IMHO you're better off to go with the 64-bit version of Vista or Windows 7. Chances are you'll want to expand memory beyond 4GB during the lifetime of the system, and if you start with 32-bit then you'll have to do a complete reinstall of the OS in order to upgrade to the 64-bit version.

With 64 bit....arent there tons of driver problems?

Not really. That was true early on with Vista x64, but 64 bit is common enough now that there really aren't too many issues.

I agree, if you're buying Win7 go for 64 bit

Yes, I fear change, but ive been running windows 7 rc 64 bit and i love it. Surprising my games, and even my emulators run in 64 bit, matter of fact the only things that don't run are nero 7 ultra, and zone alarm, and i was gonna replace those anyway

You'd want to review the hardware you use and make sure that 64-bit drivers are available. But if your hardware isn't more than a few years old you should have no problems. I running 64-bit Win7 with an Epson scanner that I bought in 2003 and it works great.

My 2 cents on drivers on Win7 RC1 64bit: Heavenly... except for Bluetooth (but then, all OSs seem to be rough around the edges---if not deep in their core---with Bluetooth)

I have to say that is wierd that you can not get Nero 7 ultra to work with Windows 7 64 bit. I have 7 ultra and it works in both Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 bit with no issues at all. Hmmm, wierd
