Removing Nvidia Drivers

I know this subject has been well covered, but I have just upgraded to a Radeon 9700 Pro from Geforce 3. I am reluctant to do a complete reinstall of WindowsXP, so just removed the Nvidia graphics drivers using the control panel software. It almost works, but when I tried a few games, I noticed that in Need for Speed HP2, all the cars were a sort of dull red colour. I have seen suggestions involving deleting all nv* files and the like. The trouble is, I have an nforce2 motherboard, so deleting all NVidia files or registry entries might not be too smart. Has anybody tackled this?

I read somewhere that it didn't work so well with XP, but I'll give it a go. [Just followed your link and it says that it is not compatible with XP yet].
