Help! I recently bought some new parts, thought foolishly that I could throw them together, and you know what, it doesn't work. If anyone has any advice drop me a line. This is what I've got:
AMD Athlon 1GHz Thunderbird CPU
Award BIOS
FIC Mobo, VIA kt133
Soundblaster Soundcard 5.1 MP3 version, slot 3
ATI all-in-wonder video card, AGP slot
generic ethernet network card, slot 1
Compaq 56k PCI internal modem, slot 4
256Meg SDRAM PC100
win 98 OS
Toshiba DVD drive
Acer CD R/W drive
Seagate ATA 66 30GB Harddrive
I've even assigned IRQ 5 to the soundblaster, cause I've heard you should. The main problem is that all of a sudden the PC just plain dies, and nothing short of unplugging it and plugging it back in will allow it to reboot.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
I'm just guessing but your using pc100 memory and it looks like the motherboard is pc133 by the model#. Check the manuel and see what the fsb is.
So what exactly do you mean "it doen't work."? What happens when you boot it up? Does it post?

DONT STICK ANYTHING IN SLOT 1!!!!!! it shares IRQs with the AGP slot, and win98 is horrible at keeping track of them, move it to slot 2 and that may help, but as a general rule never put stuff in slot 1
