A few days ago (around 3 or so), I noticed problems which never have occured
beforehand with Windows XP. On startup, the start bar now appears as all blue
for about 3-4 minutes, so I open up Task Manager and it comes up but is still
unusable for about a minute or so. I can no longer right click files as
explorer will crash and restart. It takes ages to bring up the prompt to
delete a file (around 1-2 minutes). I have virus scanned and checked for
spyware, seems to be clean. The definitions are up to date. I'm running off
SP 1.

Anyone got any ideas as to what is wrong?
Thanks in advance.

If you are a member of a local LAN, the delay is probably due to the assignment of the IP for LAN membership. You could set a Static
IP to speed it up. (tcp/ip properties, in the LAN properties)
