I have looked at the specs at both the boards, and they seem relativly similar... and the price is the same. How do the two differ? I would like to know before I sink in the money...

However if you go with an FX5600 go with the Ultra Rev.2.
You can tell a rev.2 over a rev.1 by it's core. 400/400(800) v. 350/350(700).

If you buy a Rev.1 you'd have been better off buying an Ati R9500Pro or 9600Pro. The Rev.2 is the real deal and makes it a toss-up between it and the R9500Pro (one winning one bench the other winning another) then making it a choice of fav. manufacturer (which I assume is NV based on your original selections).

EDIT: Actually take a look at <A HREF="http://www.techseekers.net/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=63&page=8" target="_new">this reviewer's</A> experience (conclusions) as a little caveat. The review is of a Rev.1 FX5600-Ultra.

As Shadus said, stay away from the FX5200-anything.

They differ in that the 5200 is the slowest DirectX 9 card on the market, hell, most DirectX 8 cards can kick the bejeesus out of it.

The 5600 is decent, but the 5600 ULTRA is a very good gaming card, especially revision 2.

The difference lies in the graphics processors, even though the memory and GPU speeds look similar.

It's like running a hyundai engine and a ferrari engine at 6000 RPM. It looks the same on paper, but the Ferarri engine is kicking out way more horsepower.

That is a FX5600.

Tell me, did you buy it because it has 256MB?

What was your previous video card?

I'm building a new rig (once the mainboard arrives a MSI neo FIS2R) for myself. This one I'm using now is a P3 900 with a Geforce 4 440 64MB.

I nearly brought a 128MB Radeon 9600 pro from dabs.com which costs about £140 after shipping. I went to another site and found the GeforceFX 5600 256MB for £131 Inc shipping. As it was £10 cheaper I went and got it instead. I'm still waiting for it and it hasn't arrived, do you recommend I change it?

Try it first. But personally, the 256MB does jack, and the FX5600 on its own just isn't as strong as the 9600. Who knows though, wait and see.
It surprises me its price is below that of the 9600. It's usually jacked up elsewhere.
