I'm deciding between a Nvidia geForce4 ti4800, a fx5600 Ultra, or an Ati 9600 Pro. I'm leaning towards the geForce due to the price.

go for FX5600Ultra IF that's a rev2
otherwise, go for ATI Radeon9600Pro
Ti4800 is nice as well..but since it's an older card, I would go for either FX or 9600..

Ditto on the NightsL recommendation.

For the same price the FX5600Ultra rev.2 [400/400(800] is a better performer in most tests. The rev.1 [350/350(700)] is a lesser performer and either ties or loses most times. There is some wiggle rom with many R9600Pros for overclocking but don't rely on that for your buying decision (those days are gone IMO).
The main issue will be price. The GF4s ca be had for pretty cheap. The R9600Pros have some extra utility (DX9 compliance being one (main) of them) and cost a little more. The main thing (for my recommendation) is the price diff. Between the R9600Pro and he FX560Ultra Rev.2. I you are willing to spend the )hopefully small) extra amount, it's a nicer card. If the price diff. is significant, then you may want to consider the R9600P whihc is still a really good card (and if you win the crap shoot, may oveclock to performance levels above the FX, but that's not assured).

Anywhoo, from what most of us have seen it's not an easy decision. Between the R9600Pro and the FX5600UltraR.2 decide based on price and the extras the 'whole package' offers that interest you. The R9600Pros usually come with spartan accesories (to keep prices down).

No matter what you'll need to do some serious research o he card you decide on to be sure it's what you're looking for.

It is about $20 cheaper in some places, actually. But I've seen them more expensive, too. The b*tch is finding one anymore. You find one, and you'll have no problem.

I'd recommend (all thing sbeing equal or close to it) the;

R9500Pro-128
FX5600Ultra Rev.2
R9500Pro-64
R9600Pro (not all clock like a SumamaBirch, so it's a risk [and I don't want you beating ME! ])
Fx5600Ultra Rev.1
R9600non-pro AND FX5600Non-ultra tied for Sucking!

But of course they all pale in comparison to the MATROX Parhelia. Buy a Piece of the SUN! ... and get BURNED!

Now the R9500Pro is (likely) worth the SLIGHT bit extra money over the R9600P, however it's kinda hard to find nowadays.

Also you can swap the top 2 in either order, I just doubt you'll find the FX5600R.2 for anywhere close to the price of the R9500P (if you can find that). However they both beat each other in this and that benchmark. I don't think we'll know long term whihc is better for a while.

Anywhoo, that's my take on it all.
