[H]ard|OCP has a review of the new ATI M10(Mobility 9600). They put it up against a desktop R9600 (a 9600Pro underclocked to non-pro levels) for a comparison. It does pretty well, trading blows, and in general coming out on top for most of our more common recent games (Splinter Cell, UT2K3). I would have loved to see the performance against an NV FxGo or Intel integrated, but I guess the days of comparing between mfr are already coming to an end. However considering the coniderable performance, I think this is likely the BEST mobile chip out there by a long shot, and the first true gaming chip for mobile users. Something that will actually be able to run on those native WXGA screens. Interestingly the memory used is GDDR-II and appears to be 2.2ns (thus allowing for pretty good overclcocks [whether you will be able to do so we shall see])

'MMmm wrap one up with a Dothan to go please; and add Extra Hot Sauce!'

It still is buggy in many parts, with significant performance drops, as well as AA/Aniso performance problems. Could be throttling down or the clock gating being "too Hyper Aggressive". Interesting that it did so well in Splinter Cell though. I want a comparison to a Ti4200Go, that was the leader for mobile GFX performance.

EDIT: Upon inspecting test setup specs, I found it to be incredibly unfair to even compare both when one system has the new 800MT technology! That CAN affect the outcome significantly. They should have used an i845PE with PC2700 as the laptop did. That just invalidated the entire credibility of the results and the whole point of comparison!

True, it's not completely equal but it appears they made an attempt. Perhaps they just used the gear that was around (common practice) and disabled/reduced/underclocked as much as they could within reason.

Anywhoo, I to would like to see a comparison, but I have a feeling the Gforce4 4200GO would get stomped by the mobility 9600. Remember the 4200GO isn't THAT far off from an M9000 as it is now. I don't think that the FXGO will even be close either (from what I've seen it's just barely getter than the 4200GO)

Splinter Cell was a surprise, and I know how much you LOVE that benchmark.

Well it's just nice to see SOMETHING concrete even if it's not compared to to the cometition it's facing or the chip it's replacing. MMMmm poetry!

I still think it with a Dothan would be a nice Combo. Mobile Evil!
