I've had it disabled for years, and now I get a popup everytime I start win
xp telling me to update it and I answer no, but it just comes back. What an
invasion of privacy, typical Microsoft. I don't want to update and I don't
want to use it. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it. Right now it's
sitting in my system tray and won't even let me exit out of it. TIA

How about just learning to use your computer?

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_mess_disable.htm
and

Assuming MSN Messenger:
You can also just open it and Tools --> Options --> General tab and uncheck
everything, including the not-so-obvious "Automatically run Messenger when I
log on to Windows". Close out of this, right click on the icon and choose
Exit. Reboot.
